Chloe yawned and replied nonchalantly, "All right, all right. Goodnight."

"Bye, and don't be late tomorrow," Jasper said.

After ending the call, Chloe put on an eye mask and drifted off to sleep.

Meanwhile, as soon as Joseph and Callum parted ways, a police car pulled Joseph over.

"Mr. Joseph, we received a report that you’re drunk driving. Please cooperate with our investigation."

Joseph furrowed his brow slightly. "Who told you that?"

He only had one glass of red wine tonight. It was not enough to make him drunk, so it was unlikely that anyone would have noticed.

"Sir, please don't make things difficult for us..."

"Fine. I'll ask your superior then."

"Wait, wait. It was an anonymous report from a woman. Apart from us, the media has also been informed."

A group of paparazzi were hiding nearby and sneakily taking photos. To be honest, they did not want to be involved in this matter either.

Joseph chuckled, knowing exactly who the anonymous reporter was. He made a call to someone, and the officers quickly left on the grounds of being assigned to other tasks. Since nothing happened, the paparazzi left in disappointment.

Unexpectedly, one of them saw Chloe's article on social media that was gaining popularity as they boarded the last bus. Seizing the opportunity, the paparazzo reposted the article. After it gained some attention, they considered their task completed. Copyright Nôv/el/Dra/ma.Org.

After arriving back at his place, Joseph parked the car in the yard and went inside. After taking a shower, he went to check if Jasper had gone to bed. Right at that moment, Xavia came home. Joseph glanced at Jasper's room, then turned and quietly descended the stairs.

“Is Jas asleep?" Xavia asked as she reached the entrance.

"He should be. Don't disturb him," Joseph said.

"I'll talk to him tomorrow then. Are you hungry? I’ll fix you a snack," Xavia said as she took off her coat and hung it on the rack. She wore a tight-fitting lace dress with a U-shaped neckline that showcased her alluring figure as she walked.

Joseph glanced at her but quickly averted his gaze. "Don't dress like this when you come here in the future. You have one minute to get out if you don't want to hear anything bad from me.”

Xavia's steps faltered, and she bit her lip, trying to hold back her surge of emotions. "Am I no longer allowed to see Jasper?"

She thought that after Chloe's death, she would naturally become part of the Whitmans and marry Joseph. However, he treated her as if she were invisible and even more coldly than before. She could not understand why she was treated this way when she had done no wrong.

Joseph sat on the couch. With one hand supporting his chin, he looked at Xavia and said, "Jas doesn't like gatherings, so why did you insist on throwing him a birthday party?"

"I...I just wanted him to make more friends. His teachers said that he's too introverted," Xavia replied hesitantly.

"Is that so? His teachers said that?" Joseph's gaze locked onto hers, and Xavia knew she could not deceive him.

Annoyed with herself for acting too hastily, she had no choice but to tell the truth. "Fine, no. But I came up with the idea to have a party because Jas is unapproachable—"

Shatter!

Joseph smashed the teacup set atop the table on the floor. His voice was icy and commanding as he said, "As a mother, do you think it's appropriate to call your son unapproachable?"

Xavia was startled by Joseph's sudden outburst. She turned pale and stammered, "I-I didn't mean it that way..."

Joseph remained silent, his penetrating gaze making her feel nervous.

Just as Xavia tried to find the right words, he changed the subject and said in a chilling tone, "On the day of the fire, you were in the operating room. Why didn't you ask for help?"
