Chapter 677 It’s Not Worth It
Noah lowered his head to mask the anger in his eyes. However, his voice sounded innocent as he asked, "Are you talking about me, Mr. Joseph?"
"Who else could it be if not you?" Joseph sneered.
"Coco, are you of the same opinion?" Noah asked.
"Don't worry. Even if you did harm me, it’d never compare to what he has done." Chloe scoffed. She did not believe Joseph's words and saw them as nothing more than desperate attempts to deflect responsibility.
Upon hearing this, Noah smiled as he glanced and shrugged at the man across from him. Property © NôvelDrama.Org.
Joseph felt a pain of pain course through him and a throbbing sensation in his temples as he found the situation increasingly irritating. "In that fire, he was either the one who started it or was involved in it," he said with immense frustration.
The fire that erupted in the hospital caught everyone off guard, including the firefighters who could not reach the scene in time. Given the sudden and unforeseen nature of the incident, it seemed improbable for Noah to have saved Chloe so promptly unless he had advance knowledge of the fire. Such circumstances led to doubts and raised suspicions about Noah's role in the incident. His ulterior motives could have been to seek Chloe's trust and gratitude.
Furrowing her brows, Chloe said, "I think you're missing the point here. No matter what you say, it's all meaningless. I can't forget the hurt you’ve caused me.”
"I'm merely advising you to open your eyes and see the truth about those around you," Joseph retorted.
"Hah, how amusing!" Chloe chuckled. "You're so quick to point fingers at me, but have you forgotten about how you tried to convince me to accept Xavia's baby which led to our breakup? Now that you have what you wanted and are with Xavia, you come to badmouth Noah. Quite the irony, don't you think?"
Joseph’s jaw clenched tightly. He could not refute these claims because he had indeed done those things. However, he refused to admit the part about being with Xavia. Breakup or arguments, he never truly considered parting ways with Chloe.
Yet, his reaction seemed to confirm Chloe's suspicions, cementing in her mind that he was indeed with Xavia. A feeling of intense disgust welled up in her heart. Despite having already obtained what he desired, he remained dissatisfied. While others led happy lives, he could not stand it and sought to ruin their happiness.
"Joe?"
Suddenly, a man's voice came from behind them. Instinctively, they all turned to look.
Callum stood a short distance away, observing the tense confrontation between the two men and one woman. He could easily guess what had transpired. Waving to Joseph, he said, "Come over here. I finally found the time to talk with you, and here you are hiding. What's going on?"
Joseph found himself at a loss for words. His throat felt constricted, and he could not bring himself to reveal that he had come to reconcile with Chloe, only to face her scolding.
Noah's gaze shifted between the two men and frowned slightly.
Chloe did not know the middle-aged man, but she still courteously greeted him. She then pulled Noah away from the scene, leaving Joseph alone with the man.
As she disappeared, Joseph could not tear his gaze away from her.
Callum chuckled, "Is she your ex-wife?"
Joseph remained silent, his eyes burning with anger.
"All right, stop this. It's not worth it."
"What do you want to talk about?"
"I want to talk about Imperium."
"Let's talk in the car."
Callum nodded. After all, there were too many people around, and it was not a suitable place for them to discuss such a sensitive matter. As he followed Joseph, he felt something was off with Joseph.
Once they got into the car, Joseph started the engine and quickly drove out of the parking garage. As they reached an intersection, they spotted a red Maserati waiting at the traffic light.
Noah had had a few drinks, so Chloe took the wheel. She sported a pair of sunglasses and glanced at Joseph, playfully flipping her hair and smiling at him teasingly. "Quit tailing me. Go home and spend time with your wife and child."
Although it was an unkind remark, Joseph just could not get angry at her.
As the traffic light turned green Chloe stepped on the gas pedal, leaving him far behind.
