Jojo and Coco's Unexpected Love

Chapter 659 The Surgery Was a Success

Chapter 659 The Surgery Was a Success

Lucas fell into silence, his mind working rapidly to figure out Joseph's whereabouts if he was not at the hospital. However, he failed to come up with any answers. Besides the hospital, where else did he have to be at this crucial moment?

Lucas was confused. He dialed Vince's number, who informed him that Joseph had not reached out to him either. In the end, Lucas’ only option was to return to the operating room door, sitting there feeling helpless as he waited.

The surgery carried on well into the late hours of the night. Megan approached Lucas, stifling a yawn as she instructed him, "Get Xavia some food. She’s tired from all that baby birthing."

"Why don't you get it?”

"I have to stay with Xavia. Besides, you're not the child's father. Will the nurses allow you inside?" Megan flicked her hair arrogantly. "And, I'm a celebrity. I can't just go outside and show my face in public."

Lucas felt irritated. "I can't leave either. Find someone else."

"No, you have to go. You have to pay. That's your job."

Her loud voice drew disapproving glances from the doctors.

"This is a hospital. Keep it down. If you want to argue, do it outside."

Lucas felt inexplicably dragged into the situation, and his impatience showed on his face. "Fine, just stop talking. I'll go and get it."

"Good, that's settled then. Saves me from wasting my breath." Megan hummed and walked away, swaying her hips.

Lucas hurriedly made his way to the supermarket downstairs, hoping to buy something as quickly as possible. Unfortunately, the supermarket was closed, so he had to venture further in search of an open store.

Inside the operating room, Chloe's eyes fluttered open. Her vision was filled with the blinding white light above her head. She cried out in pain and her hand instinctively reached out for something, anything that would provide a sense of solace.

The doctor noticed her waking up. He lifted his gaze from his work and offered reassurance, "Don't worry. The surgery was a success. Both you and your baby are safe, but your baby is premature and will need to stay in the hospital for observation.”

"My baby..." Chloe murmured, attempting to sit up.

The nurse approached and comforted her, "Don't worry. You'll see your baby once the surgery is over. Please remain still. Any movement may disrupt the wound closure."

Coupled with her weakened state, the nurse's gentle voice had a calming effect on Chloe. She wanted to express her gratitude to the medical staff, but she was devoid of strength. Her pale lips trembled slightly as her thoughts drifted back to the ambulance, where the helpers had been unable to reach Joseph’s phone. Why was his phone turned off? Had he really chosen to be with Xavia during her childbirth?

It felt as though something had sunk its teeth into her heart. Initially, there was no pain. But as the wound grew deeper, it consumed her entire being. The agony spread to all of her nerves, incessantly tormenting her even when she remained still. The pain she felt was reminiscent of the ache from when she gave up on her relationship. Though it had been some time since then, it still lingered and affected her deeply.

After ten minutes, the doctor cheerfully said to Chloe, "The surgery is complete. Get some rest. The nurse will bring you to your ward later."

Chloe remained immobile, unable to express her gratitude to the doctor. Just then, another individual entered the room and engaged the doctor in a brief conversation. After that, the doctor departed with the individual, leaving only the nurse to attend to Chloe.

Weighed down by the sedative’s effects, Chloe felt drowsiness wash over her, prompting her to shut her eyes.

Unknown to Chloe and those in the operating room, a silent peril loomed closer. Alcohol, along with various accelerants, seeped into the room from under the door. In these late hours at the hospital, weariness had overcome the nurses and doctors, dulling their sensitivity to scents.
