Chapter 514
Chapter 514
“Rival in love?” Evadne rested her cheek on her palm while casually popping a juicy blueberry into Thaddeus’s mouth. “You Jareth can have a rival? How interesting.”
Thaddeus snorted. “My sister’s under your overprotective watch like she’s under house arrest. Besides you and your secretary, who else does she even meet? She doesn’t have a normal social life; where would the romantic rival come from? In her dreams?”
“Exactly!” Jareth slammed his hand on the table, his voice cracking in agitation.
He remembered last night, his delicate wife murmuring another man’s name in her sleep “Aaron“.
In her dreams, she was calling out another man’s name!
Jareth’s heart shattered like glass, the pieces scattering across the floor.
“You’re not talking about my brother Aaron, are you?” Evadne’s gaze was icy as she looked at him.
Thaddeus was taken aback, unable to figure out how they were related to Aaron Material © NôvelDrama.Org.
Jareth’s eyes widened, his gaze at Evadne was filled with admiration, “Evadne, how did you know? Are you a fairy?!”
“I’m not a fairy.”
Evadne was utterly speechless. “It’s written all over your face. I saw you last night, standing face to face with Aaron, looking at him like a jealous rooster. I sensed something was odd. But Mr. Fairhaven, it seems you’re seeing things. The Ashbourne men are all gentlemen. They would never do something as disgraceful as being a third party. Don’t treat every man who talks to Marilla as a potential enemy.”
“Aaron’s not that kind of people. Jareth, you can doubt anyone but not Evadne’s relatives,” Thaddeus said, wrapping his arm around his wife, finding Jareth’s thoughts laughable.
Jareth sighed, unable to continue without making himself seem like a jealous person.
“Ah. No wonder you’re in such a rush to get married to Marilla. You’re feeling threatened.”
Evadne saw through his intentions. “Really, is this tiny thing making you lose your cool? Are you still a child?”
Jareth pursed his l*ps in embarrassment.
“On the matter of getting married, let’s think it through carefully,” Thaddeus said, his eyes darkening. “For now, you need to sort out your family affairs. Once you’ve established yourself at Fairhaven group, everything will fall into place.”
Jareth was still uneasy.
His wife could only be Marilla. But Marilla’s man might not necessarily be him. The girl was so innocent, that he was afraid that she might be swept away by someone else.
Love, when it runs deep, makes one fret over every little thing.
As breakfast was almost finished, Gordon, who had been sent busy by Thaddeus, returned.
“Mrs. Abernathy! You are truly insightful. Byron was indeed arrested!”
Gordon looked at Evadne with pure admiration. “The media are crowding outside the police station! They’ve got solid evidence on Byron for assaulting several women, including two who are underage!*
“Disgusting! He’s the worst of the worst!” Jareth slammed his hand on the table in anger.
Thaddeus was also outraged by Byron’s vile deeds.
But beyond his anger, he held deep admiration for his woman, and he pulled her close into his chest as if she were a precious treasure.
“Evadne, Jareth was right, you’re like a brilliant fairy, as beautiful as an angel.”
“Oh, stop it with the sweet talk.”
Evadne feigned annoyance, but deep down, she was pleased. “It’s just a pity, I heard Byron was caught n*ked. Some reporters were live–streaming, and they didn’t even have time to censor the image. Ah, I regret not catching that thrilling broadcast. The uncensored image is much more thrilling!”
Thaddeus, amused by her wild remarks, had grown to love this side of her. A fiery, sassy woman was exactly to his taste.
“If you want the original footage, I can get it for you,” Jareth offered earnestly.
The couple exchanged a look of disbelief.
Was he being dense on purpose, or just pretending innocent?
“Now, with Bertha down and Byron out, Matthew’s lost two of his arms,” Thaddeus said, his expression turning cold. “The fall of one will lead to the collapse of the other. Matthew must be panicking. Next, the entire Chambers Group will become his and Avery’s arena. Matthew may lack strength, but he’s cunning. Watching him clash with Avery will be like watching a snake and a scorpion in the same cage, quite a spectacle.” Evadne frowned, didn’t show the typical satisfaction of a victor. “Don’t celebrate too early. Avery is much stronger than we imagined. Yesterday, I contacted my brother to buy up Chambers Group stock during its plummet, attempting to gain control of the company. But we didn’t expect there
to be amarket mastermind behind the scenes injecting a large amount of funds to stabilize the Chambers Group’s precarious situation. As a result, my brother failed to acquire it.”
Thaddeus’s brows furrowed. “This market mastermind is Avery?”
“He has the ability to manipulate elections in Helgen. Do you think he wouldn’t have the capability to control the stock market? After lurking in Helgen for fifteen years, once he returned to Elmsworth, he must have been well–prepared to seize control of the Chambers Group.”
Evadne closed her eyes and clenched her teeth. “Under no circumstances can we let Chambers Group fall into his hands.”
“Even if we can’t stop it.” Thaddeus began.
Thad’s eyes shimmered with a soft intensity as he pressed a tender k*ss to her forehead. “Imagine if the Chambers Group, which he schemed so hard to acquire, turned out to be nothing but a empty shell, a complete mess; I believe that would be the greatest humiliation for him.”
Evadne’s sparkling eyes danced with agreement, nodding emphatically.
“Oh, right, Mr. Thaddeus, Mrs. Abernathy, there’s one more thing!”
Gordon was thirsty, but he barely had a moment to drink as he rushed to continue his report. “Not sure if it’s worth mentioning. Avery just got himself a private jet and landed last night at Elmsworth! Wow, I saw the photos taken by the guys, that jet is pure luxury! It’s even more high–end than Mr. Thaddeus’s jet. Really extravagant!”
Thad’s handsome face darkened, a shadow passing over his features. “You like big planes so. Well, why not join him and take his plane?”
