His Ex Wife Is A Billionaire

Chapter 499

Chapter 499

The center was in total disarray, security personnel scrambled to maintain order amidst the chaos.

But today’s event was a hit, a real media circus. Every reporter swarmed Edgar like bees to honey, hemming him in on all sides, leaving him with nowhere to turn, completely immobilized!

That’s the media for you. Scandal was to them what blood was to a shark!

And this wasn’t just any scandal; it was a bombshell!

Jeff’s son–in–law, currently the hot favorite in the mayoral race, was behind closed doors, nothing more than a corrupt leech, fattening his own pockets and indulging in every vice imaginable.

Who wouldn’t kill for that exclusive scoop? They all seemed ready to devour Edgar down to the bone!

“Mayor, do you want me to call for backup? This is getting out of hand!” his secretary, a worried look on his face, hurried over to Mr. Bartley.

Mr. Bartley, standing in a quiet corner, left the spotlight to his rival, a smug smile on his face as if to say, ‘Why get our hands dirty when we can just watch the show?‘

“Let’s just sit back and enjoy the chaos, shall we? Why bother with all the fuss? But do make sure my wife and I are well protected. Wouldn’t want to get splattered if things get messier.”

To prevent further escalation, the Chambers family doubled down on security at the front and back doors of the venue.

Suddenly, three black sedans rolled up with authority and parked in front of the entrance.

The doors swung open, and out stepped prosecutors in sharp suits, badges gleaming on their chests.

Leading the pack was Arnold, his eyes shining with a serious intensity that was a far cry from his usual playful demeanor at home. His commanding presence was breathtaking.

The security guards at the door exchanged nervous glances as the prosecutors marched in with purpose.

“Excuse us, please step aside. Don’t interfere with our investigation,” Arnold said coolly, his voice detached and stern.

The security staff didn’t dare obstruct and made way for them.

As Arnold stepped into the lobby, he tapped the Bluetooth earpiece in his ear, “Evadne, I’m in.”

“Hmm? That was too easy. Surprising,” Evadne responded, a hint of surprise in her voice.

“Hey. You obviously don’t know who’s handling this for you. Trust me to handle the critical moments.“.

But Arnold’s bragging lasted all of three seconds before the Chambers family’s men swiftly moved to block their path, a veritable wall of muscle and suit!

“Whoa, looks like you just got served,” Evadne teased, her laughter tinkling in Arnold’s ear, “Seems it’s not going as smoothly as you thought.”

“You can see me?” Arnold’s voice was tense as he scanned the room.

“Of course. I can see you and what’s happening inside the venue.”

Elsewhere, Evadne leaned back, her gaze fixed on the screen showing Mr. Gardner being mobbed, and Jeff, looking pale and trapped.

“This is turning out to be quite the spectacle. I simply can’t look away,” she mused with a curve to her lips.

Arnold straightened his tie with resolve, “Just watch, Evadne. The most dramatic part of today’s drama will be painted by yours truly.”

“That’s all well and good, but Prosecutor Arnold, you still need to get inside for that to happen.”

Before she finished speaking, Thaddeus’s warm hand rested on Evadne’s shoulder, his touch gentle and reassuring, “Don’t worry, Evadne. I’ve got people inside. They’ll make sure your brother gets through.”

Her eyes softened, and she leaned into his embrace. Independent as she was, whether as his wife or as a lone doctor without borders, she had always been a proud, thorny rose.

But with Thaddeus by her side, she now longed to be nothing more than his woman, cherished and secure.

“I’m sorry, this is a private event. You’re not allowed in,” one of the Chambers family’s bodyguards stepped up.

“Elmsworth Attorney at Law, prosecutor Arnold,” Arnold’s eyes were steely, “I’m here on official business. The DA’s office has

issued a warrant for the arrest of Representative Edgar Gardner. Please do not obstruct the course of justice.”

“We haven’t received any notice. We only know that unauthorized personnel shall not pass!”

The bodyguard’s attitude hardened.

Arnold’s lips curled into a cold smirk, his gaze sharp as ice, “Do you realize that you’re breaking the law?”

The bodyguard, confident in the muscle of the Chambers family, wasn’t intimidated.

“Look at you all, you’re not official. So scared of us arresting someone, there’s only one possibility: you’re with the Chambers family,” Arnold sneered.

Panic flashed across the bodyguard’s face!

Before they were deployed, Mr. Chambers had been clear: no mention of the Chambers family, just delay the prosecutors to buy time. If Edgar was taken by the DA, it would be game over for them!

So, they bluffed, “No! We’re not with the Chambers family! We’re here to keep order on behalf of Mr. Bartley!”

“Oh? You’re with Mr. Bartley? Funny, I don’t recognize a single one of you.”

The calm voice came with approaching footsteps, and all heads turned-

It was Mr. Bartley’s chief of staff, followed by a retinue from the Bartley family.

The Chambers family’s bodyguard was caught in an awkward bind, cornered and speechless!

“How bold of you to impersonate members of the Bartley family right under Mr. Bartley’s nose, and attempt to frame him.”

The chief of staff was stern, then turned to Arnold with a congenial smile, “Prosecutor Arnold, I believe you should issue another arrest warrant for these troublemakers acting under unknown orders, obstructing justice. It’s only right to clear our Mayor’s name.”

Arnold nodded slightly, a faint hint of determination in his eyes, “I’ll see this through to the end.”

“That’s reassuring. You know, our esteemed Mayor has been quite vocal about supporting the organizational decisions. He’s ready to go the extra mile to cooperate with the DA’s office,” the Chief of

Staff added, seizing the opportunity to sing his boss’s praises–a true political animal if there ever was one.

The folks from the Chambers family were utterly cowed; none dared to stand in the way any longer.

“Appreciate the cooperation.”

With the urgency of a storm, Arnold strode forward, his team in tow, heading for the conference room!

No sooner had they left than the Chief of Staff discreetly slipped away to a corner to make a phone call.

Meanwhile-

Mr. Thaddeus was playfully entangled with Evadne, seeking a kiss when his phone rang.

“Stop it, Thad, answer the phone,” Evadne said, her cheeks flushed with a rosy hue, her hands pressing against his crisp shirt, feeling the contours of his well–defined chest muscles, her thoughts drifting into fantasy.

Darkness flickered in Thaddeus’s eyes, and seizing her moment of distraction, he gently gripped her chin and planted a kiss on her lips before switching his phone to speaker.

The Chief of Staff’s voice came through, “Mr. Thaddeus, I’ve taken care of the matter you arranged. Prosecutor Arnold and his team have made their way inside.”

“Much appreciated, Mr. Joseph.”

In the next second, Thaddeus’s imposing figure leaned into Evadne, pinning her against the car window.

Then, his kiss descended powerfully, claiming her cherry–red lips.

His nature, wolfish in its greed, was evident in his reluctance to settle for a mere peck when it came to her.

Evadne, responding to the intensity of his kiss, her eyes shimmering, wrapped her arms around his neck involuntarily, yet she was internally startled!

She had seen everything that transpired in the hall through the security cameras.

Had Thaddeus’s inside man been the Mayor’s own Chief of Staff?

The realization was sharp and unexpected!

Mr. Joseph continued with obsequious laughter, “You’re too kind, Mr. Thaddeus. It’s an honor to be of service to you. And after all,

helping you is like helping Mr. Bartley. The Mayor has been looking forward to today’s spectacle for quite some time.”

“In the future.”

“Should you need anything else, please don’t hesitate to ask, Mr. Thaddeus!” Mr. Joseph’s eagerness was palpable, as if Thaddeus was his true employer.

The temperature inside the car rose, their lips and teeth intertwined in a deep and lingering embrace.

Thaddeus reluctantly pulled away from the tender, moist lips, his own lips curving in satisfaction.

It was unclear whether that satisfaction stemmed from Mr. Joseph’s response or Evadne’s passionate reciprocation.

After ending the call, Evadne’s brow was glistening with a thin sheen of sweat.

“Are you some kind of social chameleon? Getting your foot in the door everywhere. Even amongst Mr. Bartley’s inner circle?”

She caught her breath softly within his embrace, her gaze soft and coquettish, “Politicians are calculated, always vying for power and prestige. And a Chief of Staff, that’s a tough nut to crack. How did you manage to win him over?”

Thaddeus gently stroked her damp hair, raising an eyebrow, “To win him over, it helps when you’re as affluent and respectable as your man.”

“Such a big head you have,” Evadne lightly tapped his cheek.

“Mr. Joseph has served Mr. Bartley loyally for years, but from what I hear, Bartley is a tyrant, notoriously harsh on his staff. Working for him is like walking on thin ice. And despite Mr. Joseph’s many chances to advance, Bartley has deliberately held him back. Tell me, if you were him, would you stay blindly loyal?” NôvelDrama.Org: text © owner.

Evadne nodded in understanding, cracking the enigma, “So when he saw no future in politics, he looked to the business world. And you seized the chance to promise him some benefits, like, handling your affairs now in exchange for a future position at the Abernathy Group, right?”

Thadus’s eyes, warm with affection, smiled at her, “Evadne, you’re a true gem, bright and perceptive.”

“Take good care of Mr. Joseph; he’s quick–witted, and he manages to play both sides without a single drop spilling.”

Evadne’s intelligent eyes twinkled, “We’ll keep him close. He’ll prove invaluable in the future.”

Just as Matthew thought he had everything under control and was about to whisk his sister and her unfortunate husband away, Arnold and a squad of prosecutors marched towards them with an

unstoppable momentum.

“Matthew! How’d they get in?” Bertha hid behind him, trembling, her aristocratic composure shattered,

Matthew clenched his jaw, his expression darkening as Arnold approached.

“Mr. Chambers, things are not going your way. No matter how you twist and turn, the light of justice will find its way,” Arnold said, his voice tinged with a mocking mirth, his righteous aura overpowering Matthew, “After all, Elmsworth doesn’t bear the name… Chambers. Some folks think they can bend the law to their will, but they’re just deluding themselves–it’s like sleeping on the bathroom floor, never too far from the filth.”

Matthew’s anger crackled like a live wire, yet he managed to keep his smile stiff, “Mr. Ashbourne, I have no idea what you’re talking about.”

Arnold raised an eyebrow, “There’s no Mr. Ashbourne here, only Prosecutor Arnold. Step aside, don’t block the way.”

With that, he forcefully shouldered past Matthew, leading his team into the conference room.

Matthew rubbed at his sore shoulder, his eyes seething with venom as he watched Arnold’s retreating figure.

“Matthew! What do we do? They’re going to arrest my husband! Stop them!” Bertha was beside herself with panic, frantically shaking Matthew’s arm.

“Shut your mouth!” Matthew finally snapped, his roar silencing her.

Bertha’s mouth hung open, but no sound came out–she was struck dumb.

Surrounded by a sea of reporters, Edgar’s face was pale, his hair disheveled, his only thought to escape.

As the sound of determined footsteps echoed, the crowd parted to reveal the approaching prosecutors.

“Look! It’s the DA’s office!”

Hearing this, Edgar shuddered violently!

At that moment, Arnold strode confidently towards him, flashing the arrest warrant for all to see.

The room erupted into murmurs of shock before falling eerily silent.

Only Arnold’s crisp voice cut through the stillness, stern with a hint of precision.

“Edgar, you are suspected of committing embezzlement, abuse of power, and trading influence for personal gain. Please come with us for questioning,” he declared, his tone leaving no room for argument.
