His Ex Wife Is A Billionaire

Chapter 272

Chapter 272

The hallway outside.

Gordon stood at the door of the hospital ward, eyeing the two rows of guards standing in the corridor. Their uniform stance and stoic expressions, not to mention the intimidating aura they exuded, sent chills down his spine.

The door opened, military boots hitting the floor with a cold, crisp sound.

Bennett stepped out, adjusting his military cap and maintaining a stone–faced expression. Years of military discipline had taught him to mask his emotions in the presence of strangers.

“Salute!” The guards snapped to attention, saluting him.

“Let’s go.”

With a nonchalant command, Bennett swept past Gordon, followed by the guards.

The hallway fell silent once more.

Gordon watched Bennett’s retreating figure. His handsome and stern profile, his powerful and masculine charm, and his unpretentious demeanor had him, a grown man, utterly captivated.

He was faced with the stark reality of the chasm that existed between individuals.

Just as he was lost in his thoughts, Thaddeus emerged, walking with heavy steps and a shadowed look in his eyes

“Thaddeus, you shouldn’t push yourself. Given your current condition, you really shouldn’t leave the hospital prematurely!”

Gordon rushed over to support Thaddeus, only to be stubbornly pushed away. “I cannot. If I don’t return to the corporation, Frederic and Elspeth will become suspicious. They’ll use any excuse to undermine my authority. My hospitalization and injury must not be…”

Overcome by the stress and frustration of arguing with Bennett, Thaddeus, who had been holding back, finally broke into a fit of coughing.

The hollow sound echoed from his chest, sending fear and panic through Gordon. His heart ached at the sight, his eyes welling up with tears.

“Thaddeus, the corporation, the presidency, none of that is as important as your health!”

“Don’t worry, I won’t die. I’ve been through countless battles and injuries over the years. I’m still here, aren’t I?”

Thaddeus straightened up, taking a deep breath.

When he recalled Bennett’s harsh words about him disgracing the military, his eyes reddened slightly.

How unfair.

That evening, Evadne had booked a luxury suite at K Orld Hotel, preparing a feast of fine wine and food for Bennett.

Arnold, Aaron, and Nydia, who were all working and studying in Elmsworth, all rushed over. Siblings gathering together was always a joyful occasion, and the, atmosphere was incredibly lively.

Unfortunately, they had to say goodbye to Bennett as soon as they had welcomed him. Everyone was filled with regret at his departure, and Evadne couldn’t help, but tear up, drowning her sorrows in several glasses of wine.

Her emotions were a mix of happiness and frustration. Why did Thaddeus like her?

Was it because of the shared hardship they experienced on Misty Mountain, or did he feel some strange guilt after learning that she was the little girl he had saved thirteen years ago?

Or was he simply a fickle lover, shifting his affections from the delicate Acacia to her, a noble and aloof rose queen?

Evadne tugged at the corner of her mouth in a cold smirk.

So the heartbreak Acacia caused him wasn’t that deep. He had quickly moved on to her.

Despicable old man!

“Evadne! I heard you went back to the mountain to be a forest ranger again, and you even risked your life to save someone! You almost fell off the cliff!”

Arnold had heard about Evadne’s latest heroic deed from Cassius. He was terrified and hugged her tightly, refusing to let go. “You little devil! You’re going to scare me to death! If anything happens to you, I won’t even bother getting a wife. I’ll just follow you!”

“Arnold! Loosen your grip, you’re choking our little sister!” Bennett noticed Evadne sticking out her tongue and gasping for air, and quickly intervened to pull Arnold

away.

“Wow, this is new. I’ve heard of dying for love, but dying for a sibling? That’s a first.” Aaron teased Arnold while stuffing a large piece of steak into his mouth.

“Pfft!” Nydia couldn’t help but cover her mouth with her hand.

She was always quiet and reserved in front of her brothers. She almost spit out her drink when she heard Aaron’s comment!

Concerned that Nydia might choke, Cassius patted her on the back while casually teasing Arnold. “Arnold, Evadne survived a great danger. Stop saying words like ‘little devil‘ and ‘scare to death‘, it’s bad luck.”

“Damn, I’m just worried about her!”

Arnold’s little sister had been taken away by Bennett, but he was not giving up, still tightly holding Evadne’s hand.

What was supposed to be a harmonious sibling gathering had turned into a scene of rivalry over their beloved sister.

“Speaking of which, Evadne, you risked your life to save that person. Didn’t they present you with a banner of honor?” Aaron asked curiously.

“I passed out after I saved her. I have no idea what happened later.” Evadne shrugged indifferently, continuously eating the shrimp that Bennett had peeled for her.

“They did present a banner.” Cassius wiped his mouth with a napkin after finishing his meal.

Everyone looked at him in surprise. Evadne, with a shrimp in her mouth, exclaimed, “What?”

“I left my phone number with Captain Sean of the Forest Park ranger team. He contacted me later and told me that the woman you saved had come øver in a wheelchair with her family two days ago. They presented a banner and wanted to thank you personally. Unfortunately, they didn’t know who you were or what your name was. They could only call you ‘the kind lady‘.”

“You contacted Captain Sean? Does that mean?”Belonging to NôvelDrama.Org.

“Yes, both Professor Leo, whom you’ve always held in high regard, and Captain Sean are aware of your true identity now.”

Cassius gave her a wistful look, “Professor Leo and Captain Sean weren’t too taken aback upon learning that you’re the heiress to the Ashbourne family. They merely asked me to take care of you, as any brother should. They also mentioned that your donations to Misty Mountain Park over the years have been more than sufficient. Professor Leo has stored it all in the maintenance fund, and they really can’t spend it all. They appreciate your generosity, and you need not donate anymore. Lastly, they wish that you’d take care of yourself and refrain from volunteering so much.”

“Oh, Cassius!” Evadne set down her lobster, pouting cutely at him.

Cassius sighed, a mixture of fondness and helplessness in his gaze, “Evadne, the fact that you’re the Ashbourne heiress shouldn’t be a secret. We don’t want it to be a secret either. After all, you’re our precious little sister, and Dad’s favorite. Even though some people know about your identity now, if you ever decide to take over the family business and assume my position, stepping into the public eye will be inevitable. You should start getting used to the idea.”

“Hmm? Cassius, that doesn’t sound right.”

Evadne’s eyes sparkled as she looked at Cassius, “Cassius, by the sound of it, have I passed Emeric’s test? Can I leave the grassroots and join the corporate world now?”

Evadne was in high spirits, and her mood, which had been spoiled by the annoying man, brightened up.

After all, in her current situation, she had two goals: gaining a promotion, making much more wealth, and ‘killing‘ her husband. She had already accomplished the latter two, and it was time to reach new heights in her career.

Cassius chuckled indulgently, teasing her a bit, “I know you’re eager, but don’t rush. Dad’s quite busy lately. Once he’s done with his current commitments, he’ll let you know the final assessment results.”

“Geez, isn’t Dad being a bit too serious? It’s a family business. He only needs one word to get Evadne in!”

Aaron couldn’t help but comment, stuffing more steak into his mouth as if he hadn’t eaten in days.

Cassius was speechless, and Evadne and Nydia were dumbstruck.

Arnold cleared his throat, “Ahem, Aaron, are you implying that it’s not as simple as Emeric saying a word?”

“Ah? Yeah, that’s what I meant!” Aaron chuckled, not minding his manners.

“Well, I guess I’ll make a toast to our sister first.”

Nydia picked up her wine glass, her cheeks flushed as she stood up, her sincerity apparent, “May you get promoted soon, Evadne, and may all your wishes come true.”

“Oh, I love hearing that, cheers!” Evadne grinned, emptying her wine glass and even blowing Nydia a kiss.

Nydia blushed even more, her cheeks a rosy pink.

“Come on, let’s all make a toast to Evadne! May all her dreams come true! Cheers!”

The brothers raised their glasses, everyone in high spirits, and the atmosphere was warm and loving.

Evadne listened to the clink of glasses and looked at the sincere eyes of her family. Her heart moved and tears welled up in her eyes..

The family dinner ended in a warm atmosphere.

Evadne and Bennett hugged each other. They were laughing and joking during dinner, but now they were saying goodbye, their eyes red.

Bennett’s military base was just in Azeroth City, not far away.

But because of his position, he sometimes had to go on business trips for several months and couldn’t come back, which made him a rare sight at home.

“Bennett, will you come back for Myra’s birthday?” Evadne lifted her hand to touch the military emblem on Bennett’s uniform shoulder, and then she put on his military cap for him.

“I’m sorry, Evadne.”

Bennett sighed regretfully, pinching her cheek and then looking at Nydia, “I’m sorry, Nydia, please tell Myra I’m sorry.”

“No, it’s okay, Bennett! We know you’re busy, and your work is important!” Nydia waved her hands, not accepting his apology.

“But I’ve already prepared a birthday gift for Myra, Evadne. When the time comes, could you please give it to her for me?”

“Sure, Bennett.”

In the underground parking lot of the hotel, Bennett’s bullet–proof car, which had been driven from Azeroth City especially for him, had been waiting for some time.

T

His aide–de–camp respectfully opened the car door. After saying goodbye to his family, Bennett got in the car, rolled down the window, and reminded Evadne, “Don’t get involved with Thaddeus anymore. Let him fend for himself, got it?”

“Oh, I got it! Bye, Bennett.”

Evadne, with her sparkling eyes and red lips, looked even cuter than Nydia, who was genuinely gentle, in front of Bennett.

After saying goodbye to Bennett, Arnold and Aaron had to go back to work.

Evadne, who had drunk quite a bit and needed to rest, asked Cassius to take her home.

“Miss Evadne, let me take you home.” Jason stepped forward without hesitation.

Taking care of Miss Evadne had become second nature to him.

“But if you leave, who’s going to take care of Nydia? She’s had quite a bit to drink too!”

Evadne stepped forward and hugged Nydia’s delicate waist. The alcohol seemed to have given her extra strength, and she pushed the petite beauty into Jason’s arms.

Nydia was already a bit dizzy. Evadne’s push nearly made her lose her balance!

But Jason, with a serious look in his eyes, caught her in time and held her close to his chest.

Nydia looked up at Jason in a daze, and he looked back at her.

Their eyes met, and their hearts skipped a beat. Their breaths tangled together.
