Chapter 263
Chapter 263
Thaddeus felt as if his whole world had been brutally upturned, his heart convulsing with a pain so intense it threatened to shatter him completely.
What had he done to her?
So many things.
Like never having proposed to her, something other wives took for granted..
Like abandoning her alone in their wedding suite on their wedding night, to sleep in another room.
Like never spending any holidays with her, never giving her any gifts.
Like the time her grandfather got into a car accident; he didn’t even rush to be by her side.
But all these things, when put together, didn’t hurt as much as one particular thing.
That was, during Evadne’s prime years, when she loved him the most, his heart was occupied by someone else.
Thaddeus‘ stunningly beautiful eyes were so red they seemed stained with blood. He tightly held Evadne’s soft hand, pressing it heavily against his chest.
He regretted so much.
Those who regret were always losers.
*Thaddeus, my sister has paid too much and sacrificed too much for you,” Bennett, like Cassius, knew exactly what his little sister had been through over the past thirteen years. Even a brief recollection was
enough to cause heart–wrenching pain, “Do you know, Evadne almost lost her life because of you? She was chasing you…..
“Bennett, stop it!” Cassius interrupted sternly, his brow furrowed.
Bennett swallowed the rest of his words, his fists clenched in frustration and resentment.
He wanted to punch Thaddeus, this vile beast! He was going crazy!
But unlike their youngest brother, Bennett didn’t have the guts to act impulsively. Over the years, he had shed his youthful recklessness and gained more rationality and calmness. Only Evadne could stir his emotions and awaken his passionate side..
“What did you mean by what you just said?”
A jolt of pain shot through Thaddeus‘ heart, as he realized that Evadne was keeping more secrets from him. Layers of doubts and concerns weighed heavily on his heart, “You said Evadne almost died because of me? When did this happen? Tell me!”
“Mr. Thaddeus.”
Cassius spoke coldly, “Whatever happened between you and my sister is all in the past. Evadne doesn’t want to dwell on it and neither will we. Let’s end all disputes here. But if you continue to pursue Evadne, continue to disturb her, don’t blame me for being ruthless.”
Bennett chimed in with his harsh words, “Thaddeus, if you still have any feelings for Evadne, stop bothering her! You’ve already hurt her enough. Do you want her to spend her entire life pining for you, being destroyed by you? Are you, who once discarded her like an old shoe, worthy to win her back?”
Evadne was quickly taken to the hospital by Cassius and Bennett.
Cassius didn’t publicize this incident and had the helicopter flown in from Azeroth City, so Emeric was still in the dark about the situation.
Otherwise, if Chairman Emeric found out that his darling daughter almost lost her life in a mountain valley, he would probably turn the whole Elmsworth upside down!
Like a magnet, Thaddeus didn’t Jeave after disembarking from the helicopter but followed Cassius and Bennett all the way.
He watched as Evadne was wheeled into the emergency room and then transferred to a regular ward.
His suspended heart finally began to settle down.
“Thaddeus, didn’t you say you would leave once we reach the hospital? Why haven’t you left?” Bennett, standing at the entrance of the ward, asked impatiently.
“I’ll leave when she wakes up,” Thaddeus answered, his face pale.
Even if it made him seem pushy and shameless, he didn’t care.
Gordon was right. There was no hope left for him and Evadne.
His only chance was to take this one, even if it meant losing his dignity.
“Thaddeus, you have no shame!” Even the normally composed Bennett was so infuriated he was ready to curse.
Thaddeus stood his ground, accepting the insult.
He had heard it so many times and he was used to it.
“Mr. Thaddeus, Evadne hasn’t seen my youngest brother in a long time,”
Cassius walked over, his face stern, “Rather than seeing you, I think she would prefer to see Bennett. Your presence here not only disturbs Evadne’s recovery but also prevents her from reuniting with us. Now that Evadne is with her family, you have no reason to worry, and no reason to stay. So, please leave.”
Cassius’s eyes were calm, his tone even. There was no significant emotional fluctuation.
But Thaddeus felt as if each word was a sharp blade stabbing into his heart, draining him of all his life force.
Outside, the rain had stopped, and the sky was lightening, filling with a melancholic blue hue akin to a piece of velvet.
Thaddeus walked slowly outside, holding onto his wet coat. Exclusive content from NôvelDrama.Org.
The coat still seemed to hold Evadne’s warmth, and although he was freezing, he couldn’t help but clutch it tighter.
Thaddeus, my sister has paid too much and sacrificed too much for you.”
“Do you know, Evadne almost lost her life because of you! She was chasing you…”
Thaddeus thought, “Chasing me, how?
Sacrificed, what did she sacrifice? What else had happened?”
Bennett’s harsh words echoed incessantly In Thaddeus’s mind. His temples throbbed violently, and the pain spread through his body.
“Thad!”
“Mr. Thaddeus!”
Thaddeus looked up, sweat dripping down his sculpted face.
Through his blurry vision, he saw Jareth and Gordon rushing towards him.
“Thad, you look terrible. Are you alright?”
“I’m fine.” Thaddeus lowered his head, staring blankly at the coat in his hand.
“And what about Mrs. Abernathy? Did you find her? How Is she?” Gordon asked anxiously.
Before Thaddeus could even get a word out, à tall man slammed into his shoulder, moving straight for the hospital entrance.
“Hey! Watch where you’re going, Jason!” Gordon yelled, pointing at the retreating back of Jason.
The impact had Thaddeus feeling lightheaded; his sturdy physique was now shaking uncontrollably, as if he was about to collapse.
Jason glanced back at him, letting out a cold, sarcastic chuckle.
“Damn it. Thaddeus saved Ms. Evadne, for god’s sake! What’s with the attitude?” Gordon was livid, itching to get into a brawl with Jason.
“He owed it to her. I’m just making amends. Expecting a thank you? Keep dreaming,” Jason retorted, gritting his teeth and striding away without a backward glance.
Thaddeus felt suffocated, beads of sweat trickling down his forehead. His fists were clenched so tightly that his hails dug into his flesh, but he felt no pain. A deeper, more agonizing pain was spreading across his back, testing his resolve.
“Thad, something’s wrong with you! Let’s go to the hospital. Thad!” Jareth’s voice was drowned out as Thaddeus could no longer hold back the wave of sickness, vomiting a mouthful of blood.
“Mr. Thaddeus!” Gordon’s voice broke in panic.
Jason was taken aback, completely unprepared for the man who had just been talking to him to suddenly start spewing blood. The next second, Thaddeus” body gave a violent shudder, and then he collapsed to the ground, as if his knees had given out.
