Chapter 528
He reached the door and found Jules, who looked equally furious. Shawn and the others stood off to the side, not daring to interfere. "What's got you storming into the lab?" Dr. Ray snapped.
"Where's Flora? What did you do with her?" Jules demanded, his anger barely contained.
Just thinking about what he had uncovered made Jules' blood boil. How dare that old fool Ray treat his precious Flora this way!
"Don't even mention her name in front of me," Dr. Ray growled, his eyes flashing with disdain. "Before you come here accusing me, did you even bother to find out what she did? She hurt a colleague and even tried to ruin her hands. You know how critical hands are to a surgeon."
"Have you properly investigated this? Are you absolutely sure it's all Flora's fault? Or are you just biased against her, slandering her out of spite?" Jules shot back, his questions cutting through the air.
Dr. Ray's face tightened, struggling to maintain composure. He had to admit, he was prejudiced against Flora from the start and had rushed to conclusions without a thorough investigation. But the evidence seemed clear-Alexa's injuries weren't self-inflicted.
"You're treating a priceless talent like garbage. You're losing your touch, old man," Jules sneered, seeing Ray's silence. His gaze swept over Shawn and the others before landing on Alexa, the only one with visible injuries.
"You, come here," Jules ordered, his tone dripping with irritation.
Alexa felt her heart skip a beat. She knew Flora had strong backing, but she never imagined it was Jules. Still, what did it matter? The injuries on her body were Flora's doing. Now, with Flora gone, she could say whatever she wanted. And no matter how influential Dr. Jules was, he couldn't control what happened inside the lab, right?
With this thought, Alexa's confidence grew. She stepped forward and greeted him politely, "Dr. Jules."
"Tell me again how you got those injuries on your head and hands. I want every detail," Jules demanded.
"It was... Flora and I were in the restroom. We had barely exchanged a few words when she suddenly went berserk and attacked me... She slammed my head against the sink and tried to break my hand..." Alexa recounted the incident, exaggerating every detail of Flora's aggression and adding emotional weight to her story.
Jules's eyes narrowed. "What exactly were you talking about?"
"Just, you know, small talk," Alexa replied.
"What were you talking about?" Jules pressed.
"Um... professional stuff," she stammered.
"What exactly?" he insisted.
The pressure from Jules's intense presence made Alexa panic. No one had questioned her story before, and she hadn't prepared her lie well. Now, her words were stumbling.
"You seemed to remember everything clearly a moment ago, even the insults Flora supposedly hurled at you. Why can't you recall it now?" Jules scoffed. "It's fine if you don't remember that part; just repeat everything you said earlier, word for word."
"I..." Alexa's face turned pale. She hadn't expected Jules to be so relentless. Biting her lip, she repeated her story, and Jules had her do it again.
With each retelling, her hastily concocted story began to show cracks. Shawn, Darcy, and the others frowned, and Dr. Ray's expression darkened further.
"Alexa, that's not what you said earlier. Your story's changed again," Dr. Ray pointed out.
Alexa's body trembled as she scrambled to piece her words together.Upstodatee from Novel(D)ra/m/a.O(r)g
