Chapter 650 I’m Back
Chapter 650 I’m Back
She looked up at the pitch-black night sky, adorned with a few scattered stars. She wrapped her clothes tightly around herself and breathed in the air, finally realizing that she had indeed returned.
Five years ago, she had no choice but to leave. Five years later, she stood here again.
“Let’s go,” the man’s voice also carried the chill of the night.
Evelyn nodded gently and exhaled slowly as she walked forward. Huston followed behind the mother and son, his deep eyes focused solely on these two gentle figures. In his deep eyes, nothing else mattered.
He was grateful for the thick darkness of the night, which had concealed the fragility in his eyes and the welling up of tears.
After they walked out of the VIP passage, a black chauffeur car waited by the roadside. As they emerged, an assistant promptly approached to take their luggage and place it in the trunk.
Evelyn saw a familiar face appear from the driver’s seat, and after five long years, it felt like things had changed. “Long time
Sam Andrews had received Huston’s notification earlier.
Although he had left the HM Law Office for several years, Sam had always regarded Huston as a respected superior and colleague. He volunteered to pick them up this time.
He was genuinely delighted to see Evelyn back safe and sound. “Long time no see, Miss Shelton.”
The car door opened. Lucas got in first, followed by the two adults.
“President Lloyd, where are you going first?”
The man glanced at the woman beside him and asked, “Where are we heading?”
After thinking for a while, Evelyn told him the address of Grace’s. “Let’s go to Grace’s place first.”
At this hour, going anywhere else wouldn’t be suitable. Going back home would only disturb Ben and Lucy. Grace, being a young person, was the only one who could handle this ‘surprise’ of her sudden return.
On the way, Evelyn made a call to Grace. Grace hadn’t changed her phone number for five years. When she picked it up, she sounded a bit confused. “Hello?”
Hearing that familiar voice, Evelyn’s emotions overwhelmed her, and she choked up, “Grace, it’s me.””
There was a long silence on the other end, and neither of them spoke. Grace had been dozing off, but now she was wide awake, her heart pounding in her ears. After a while, she cautiously asked, “Evelyn?”
Evelyn nodded to herself, not caring whether Grace could see it or not, “It’s me.”
Then she added, “I’m back.”
“It’s really you!” Grace screamed in a low voice. There was no need for proof or further words. Just that one word ‘Grace,’ and she knew it was her, it was really her.
“Where are you right now?” Grace asked quickly, fearing that something would happen to her.
Five years had passed, and Grace was still as kind to her as she had been. Just now, Evelyn was worried that she would blame her for leaving without saying goodbye. Fortunately, her worries didn’t come true.
“I’m with Huston now. We’ll be coming to your place to stay for the night. Is it convenient for you?”Content (C) Nôv/elDra/ma.Org.
“Of course it’s convenient!” Grace was extremely excited.
“I haven’t moved, and my address hasn’t changed. Do you remember?”
Once again, Evelyn was deeply moved, right in the core of her being. “Yes, I remember.”
As soon as she finished speaking, there was another short moment of silence. Grace’s voice trembled slightly as she said, “Then I’ll wait for you.”
“Okay.”
After hanging up the phone, Evelyn found it difficult to calm her emotions. She didn’t dare to cry directly, for fear of scaring the child. She could only turn her face away and look out the window, trying to hold back her tears.
From the corner of his eyes, Huston could only see a third of her face. Her slender chin trembled slightly, her lips tightly pressed together, as she struggled to restrain the emotions welling up inside her.
Lucas sat in the back seat. The man draped his coat over her legs, and then warm hands tightly clasped her cold little hands under the clothes.
Evelyn shrank back, trying to free her hand with a slight force, but he held on even tighter. To make matters worse, he concealed it beneath the garment, making it completely inconspicuous.
