She heard that Kate and Amelia did not have that sort of relationship. However, Amelia had been going
in and out of a luxurious hotel frequently. It was obvious what was going on.
Tobias saw that Saorise was on the cover of the magazine that Skylar was reading. Although she
looked like his ideal type of woman, he did not choose a woman based on looks alone.
He lit a cigarette, causing wisps of smoke to encircle the room. The pungent smell of tobacco wafted
into Skylar's nose. She fanned the air with her hand while frowning.
“Did you change the brand of your cigarettes? The smell is so strong.”
Tobias took out a box of cigarettes from his pants. When Skylar saw that it was an expensive brand,
she said, “You're finally smoking something that's similar to what rich people smoke.”
The smell of the tobacco made Skylar have a headache. She did not like the smell and disliked others
smoking near her.
However, it was impossible to make Tobias quit smoking just for her.
Tobias flicked the ashes away. “I ran out of cigarettes yesterday, so I bought some randomly. You don't
like it?”
Skylar wanted to say that she did not like it, but in the end, she kept silent.
Madelyn had already prepared lunch. As Tobias was there, she prepared dishes that were to his liking.
Most of them were much blander.
Skylar took out a can of hot sauce from the fridge and planned to eat it with the spaghetti.
Tobias did not like spicy food and flavored drinks. He did not even drink much either. Smoking was his NôvelDrama.Org copyrighted © content.
only unhealthy habit.
“I saw your father yesterday and greeted him.” Skylar suddenly remembered how she had met Xander
and thought that it was necessary to inform Tobias about that.
Tobias' expression changed as he held the bowl. It seemed like he was quite unwilling to hear about
anything related to Xander.
He asked Skylar, “What did he say?”
Skylar tossed her fork aside. “Not much. He doesn't really look like he wants to talk to me. There's
nothing to talk about, so he just asked if I was your girlfriend.”
Tobias' gaze fell on Skylar's fork. He took the fork away from the table. She doesn't know that it's
unhygienic to leave it there.
However, he did not say anything. Since Skylar was still young, she did not know much.
No matter what mistakes Skylar had committed, he would excuse them by saying that she was still
young. Tobias was starting to realize that he had no bottom line when it came to her.
“There's nothing to talk about. I have nothing to say to him either.”
Skylar had never heard Tobias complain to her about how tragic his childhood was. It was mostly her
lamenting about how unfortunate she was to have grown up without parents, how her relatives looked
down on her, how her neighbors bullied her, and how much she was shunned in school.
Everyone called her the daughter of a murderer.
“Is it impossible for you to resolve the conflict between you and your father?” asked Skylar.
Tobias placed his fork down and said, “We'll never reconcile. I'm already kind enough to not disturb
him. Furthermore, he never thought that it was his fault that he abandoned us. A person like him will
only keep seeking excuses. He shouldn't even call himself a man.”
Remembering how Xander ditched his wife and children, Skylar could not help but exclaim silently at
how not every man deserved to be a father.
She asked, “If you had a child, would you marry for your child? Even if you don't have a good
relationship with your wife, will you still avoid getting a divorce?”
Tobias had never thought about Skylar's question before. Staring at her broodingly, he asked, “What do
you think my answer will be?”
Skylar twirled the spaghetti on her plate, trying her best to think of Tobias in the nicest way possible.
She said, “Probably yes. Usually, one would usually care more about something that's missing from the
original family.”
