Chapter 9
Chapter 9
“Bring Billy to the police station? He was initially being threatened, but in the end, he willingly helped her to escape. So, I’m afraid that we won’t be able to get anything out of him. I heard that he is a pretty stubborn man, and no one could make him speak if he didn’t want to, even if he was being tortured.” Derek didn’t get why Ethan wanted him to do so.
“It doesn’t matter whether he confesses or not.” Ethan removed his mask after Leah left the room. By then, he was back to his usual calm self, and his jawline was well-defined.
“Got it. I’ll have it arranged,” Derek immediately replied. After half an hour, Billy was brought to the police station. He was so mad that he wanted to swear. F*ck, who the hell did Alice offend? It was two in the morning, and all the exits of the hotel he was at were shut, and he was seized soon after he left the hotel. And now he was brought to the police station? These people were ruthless psychopaths. However, since he was brought to the police station, it meant that Alice wasn’t caught. Thus, he shouldn’t give himself away.
“Mr. Yeager, we’ve asked you to be here today to ask about some questions, and we seek your cooperation on this.” Officer Luke, who was in charge of the questioning, spoke politely.
“Sure. I’ll definitely reveal everything I know to you and cooperate as best as I can.” Billy smiled while looking calm. Without waiting for the police officer to speak, he pulled the chair out and took a seat, as if he was a guest there.
“Mr. Yeager, do you know the woman who left the hotel with you 30 minutes ago?”
“I don’t know her,” Billy didn’t hesitate as he replied. At the same time, Ethan, who was observing the interrogation via the monitor, narrowed his gaze after hearing Billy’s statement.
“I knew that Billy wouldn’t have spoken the truth.” Derek scoffed and continued, “If he didn’t know who she was, he wouldn’t have put his life on the line just to help her.”
“Mr. Yeager, but you helped her escape from the hotel,” Officer Luke asked.
“Escape?!” Billy laughed and asked, “Why? Did she kill anyone? If she did, shouldn’t your side issue an order to have her arrested? Then I guess I’m considered an accomplice.”
“It’s not that serious.” Officer Luke couldn’t help but let out a sigh when he realized that it was a tough job, as expected. RêAd lat𝙚St chapters at Novel(D)ra/ma.Org Only
“Oh, good to hear. I merely gave her a ride, and she had gotten off my car after we left the hotel. I have no idea about what happened before and after that.”
“Mr.Yeager, do you really not have any idea as to who she is?”
“No idea. We met at a masquerade party, so everyone had a mask on. No one was able to recognize anyone,” Billy replied nonchalantly.
“The thing is that I heard that you only decided to help her after she threatened you.”
“Oh, you can just say whatever you want. Do you have any more questions?” Billy shrugged indifferently, and his attitude made it hard for Officer Luke to continue with the interrogation.
“Billy sure is a cunning fox,” Derek chided as he stared at the screen.
Ethan then glanced at him, and suddenly, he seemed to have understood Ethan’s motive. “Boss, I got it. Billy, that cunning fox wouldn’t be able to beat you.” Derek seemed excited as he took his phone out and made a call. Boss had mentioned that it didn’t matter whether Billy confessed, the most important thing is…
Meanwhile, in the interrogation room, Officer Luke’s phone rang. He glanced at Billy before answering it. Throughout the call, he didn’t speak and listened quietly. Billy, on the other hand, didn’t seem to care.
“You’re saying it’s Alice Woland of the Woland Family?” Officer Luke, who was sitting in front of Billy, suddenly exclaimed.
At that moment, Ethan was staring intently at Billy from the screen and was observing his reaction. All of these were within Ethan’s plan. As long as there was the slightest change in his expression, Ethan would be able to tell. Just then, Billy’s phone rang, and he was slightly stunned. Before he could react, his expression froze, as if he had been woken suddenly.
“Hi, Bruce,” Billy answered the phone and was relieved. If it wasn’t for the phone call, he would have exposed himself. That person sure was cunning for trying to trick him using this way.
Under such circumstances, even though he had prepared himself for anything that would be coming, if the interrogator suddenly answered the phone and mentioned Alice’s name, he would have more or less exposed himself. He knew that someone must be observing him somewhere, and that person would have noticed a change in his expression, given how good that person was. It was a close call!
“F*ck, that call came at the wrong time!” Derek swore as he stared at the screen. “It had ruined our plan.”
Knowing that his plan was destroyed by the call and that he wouldn’t be able to get any information out of Billy, Ethan instructed, “Investigate Alice Woland and do not miss out on any information that you can get.”
“Alright.” Although Derek doubted that the woman was Alice, he had to proceed with the investigation since it was Ethan’s instruction.
It didn’t take long for the efficient Caleb to give them a call. “Mr. Knight, we found out from the petrol station staff that the woman left in a cab not long after. I’ve managed to locate the driver, and I’ve brought him over.”
“Ok,” Ethan answered.
“Chief Jenkins, I’m a law-abiding citizen, and I’ve not done anything wrong.” The taxi driver, who happened to know Derek, was startled when he saw a lot of police officers outside of the hotel.
“We didn’t say that you’ve committed a crime. About 30 minutes ago, did you pick up a passenger from the petrol station opposite here?” This time, Derek personally questioned the taxi driver while Ethan sat on the side.
“Yes, yes. Someone happened to order a ride on Uber, and I drove over since I’m in the area.” The cab driver was relieved when he found out that it was about this.
“Who is that person?” Derek asked.
“It’s a woman with a fox mask on, and she had an elaborate headpiece on. She was dressed in a strange way, but she had a good body figure. As soon as I reached the petrol station, she got into the car and asked me to drive toward the city. After that, she was quiet throughout the journey. She seemed mysterious.” The taxi driver was able to give them the details as she had left a deep impression on him.
“Seems like it’s that woman.” Derek looked at Ethan. Hearing that, Ethan pursed his lips but didn’t say anything. Since the time and the location matched, it was highly probable that it was that woman. Earlier on, she had a white cape on so they couldn’t see her figure, but after that, she passed the blood-stained white cape to Leah.
When Derek thought of how that woman was able to escape despite being completely surrounded by Ethan’s man, he thought that they wouldn’t be able to get much information, so he didn’t hold his hopes high. “Based on what you just said, did you manage to see her face?”
“Yes, I did. She didn’t pay for the fare when she got off and said that she would pay me in the future. I asked her to take the mask off, and she was reluctant in the beginning but eventually gave in. So, I was able to see her face,” the cab driver said.
“Did you take a proper look at her? What does she look like?” Derek instantly stood on his feet, and his eyes lit up.
Does this mean that we now have a glimmer of hope? We will be able to find that woman when we find out what she looks like.
“Let him have a look at Alice’s picture,” Ethan suddenly ordered as he raised his brow.
