Hector POV

I had questions for Jude and I'll be damned if I leave Kala alone at my pack. It was his pack's turn to hold a group pack banquet and I wasn't going to go, but I think it would help Kaia to get to know other pack leaders, especially before her council hearing. Also long term, it would help her cause with the Nightshade Reformed pack having carved out her own alliances.

The journey in the car, albeit always short when going to Jude's pack, was quiet.

Kala was quiet, she was overthinking things again. She was even quiet with Jude as he greeted her, before taking her with him and Edmund for a tour of the pack.

I needed to visit the library, and I needed to visit it alone.

I had been in the library for about an hour when Jude walks in checking up on me.

"Don't worry, Kaia's with Edmund. How's it going?"

"Nothing new." I sigh out. I was now just going around in circles with the research, I wasn't learning anything new which was frustrating me. Whoever this person Jude has contact with, it was time I met with her.

"I need you to make contact with your source." I start to place the research books back, I wouldn't need these any more. I had read them all cover to cover plenty of times.

"I have..." His admission excites me.

"And?"

"She is willing to meet with you."

"Great, where...when?"

1 have to warn you Hector..I had no choice but to tell her."

"Tell her what?" I seethe through gritted teeth. I was keeping Kaia's true identity away from her inner circle ...I hadn't even told Alora of my findings yet.

"She has only agreed if you bring Kaia with you."

"Not a fucking chance."

"I get it, but the only reason she agreed was if she got to meet the White Wolf herself. Just think about it." Jude perches against the desk as I place the last few books away.

"Can she be trusted?" I turn to him, I could trust Jude but what about this contact of his.

"I have no reason not to trust her, but we can play it safe. We can keep Kaia out of the first meeting, but..."

"But?" I don't like buts.

"She's a rogue from the original pack...she was casted out from what I understand for speaking up against

leadership. We will have to deliver on our promise at some point."

I didn't like the sound of that. Kaia wasn't a bargaining tool and if I wanted to keep her out of this, then I will. Once we are marked it's going to be harder to keep things from her, keep my emotions in check. We walk back towards the direction of the alpha house, when Edmund walks towards us. in sight.

"Where's Kaia?"

"She's fine Alpha, she wanted some quiet time. She's in the pool." Edmund replies calmly.

What?" Pure panic erupts through me and it's my wolf that reacts before me, and I don't try to stop him.

My clothes shred to pieces around me as I let him control the shift. He rashes towards the alpha home, jumping over the back wall into the garden where the pool comes in sight.

"Alpha wait..." Edmund shouts out, both he and Jude racing behind me, still in their human forms.

I find her lying face down in the pool. She was only in her black bra and panties.

My wolf shifts me back, as my mind skips back to when I pulled her lifeless body out of the ocean that would have otherwise claimed her for itself. Flashbacks force themselves onto me, I was back at the cliff tops...

"Kaia." I roar as I jump into the pool pulling her outstretched arm to me.

Relief washes over me when she reacts to my abrupt motion, as she fights against me, gasping for air. "What are you doing?" She pushes against my chest shouting at me as she wipes her eyes of water.

"I thought you were drowning."

"I was floating."

"Floating... What the fuck are you thinking." I roar at her exasperatedly.

She moves away from me, her body fighting against the water as quickly as she can. Her eyes turn to Jude and Edmund standing by the edge of the pool. She swims up to them, lifting her hand out for them. to pull her out, leaving me naked in the middle of the pool. She wraps a towel around her before turning back, glaring daggers at me, her anger pushing at me through the bond.

1 was happy I could remember to swim Hector. Alora said my mother's pack was by water. I wanted to know if I could still swim." She roars at me before she storms off, picking up her clothes on the way.

She was so angry that she didn't realise half of her panties had risen up her bum. My eyes glare at the two males to find them staring at her as she walks away.

They both turn their heads back at me when I growl threateningly at them, their eyes watching me as I pull myself out of the pool.

"What the fuck were you thinking?" I round one Edmund. How could he leave her alone in the pool like that.

"Alpha, I was with her when she first went in. I even watched her do a few laps. She's a natural...I tried to
