Chapter 145
Hector POV
"They are both still unconscious, but you should be with them when they wake." The surgeon nods to Kaia, before leaving the room.
She watches the doctor leave, a relieved smile forming on her face and for a moment her carefree look takes my breath away. It only lasts for a second before she clears her throat as she catches me watching her. "I'll go with Father, you should go to Alora." Kala suggests in a monotone voice, her mask was back on.
"Are you sure?"
Of course I wanted to check on Alora, no matter what had passed between us I still cared for her, still wanted to make sure she was safe.
She had lived in my Father's house for years, eaten meals at the dinner table...been a constant figure in the Alpha family household.
Mate bond or no mate bond, I would still care for her welfare.
"Yes, yes I'm sure."
"You will tell me if Beckett wakes...Kaia..you will get word to me?"
"Yes, Hector I will get word to you."
Entering the room, I have to remind myself that this isn't 4 years ago, that her laying in the hospital bed isn't from her having taken wolfsbane to end her own life...but that she was now on the mend.
Yes there were machines around her but they weren't attached to her as they were before, they weren't artificially keeping her alive. She had an IV drip attached and that was all.
"Alpha? I have Alpha Zederick and other council board members demanding entrance on to the pack lands." Ezra's voice pushes on my mind-link.
Talk about timing.
Jude and I had ran out of the council meeting and I hadn't even gone back to them yet, everything had just become too chaotic.
"What do they want?"
"They want to speak with the Luna..."
"No chance." I growl back through the mind-link.
I know Alpha but they are being quite persistent."
"Even if I was okay with them seeing her, which I'm not I'm not interrupting her. She's with Beckett, they've only just come out of theatre."
Fucking Marc, no doubt he has applied pressure to the council and demanded they visit the site to learn.
more.
"Ask Jude to see them off, they'll have to walt for me to contact them." I didn't have time for politics right now, I don't care if they feel angry by my lack of enthusiasm to greet them at the pack gates. This wasn't my pack and the pack's alpha was out of action right now... they'll just have to wait.
"Yes Alpha." Ezra cuts the link with me as I stand up from the chair needing to pace due to irritation flowing through my body.
"Hector?" Alora's hoarse quiet voice whispers as her barely open eyes watch my movement.NôvelDrama.Org owns this text.
"You're awake? How do you feel?"
"Groggy..what happened?"
"You fainted during Than's confrontation. The doctor felt it would be opportune to take you straight to surgery...
"Beckett?" She tries to sit up but winces when she does.
"He's still unconscious but the doctor said the operation was a success on both accounts."
"Where's Kaia?" She asks as she sits herself up.
"She's with Beckett. I'll let her know you are awake."
"No, don't. Let her be with him. Is Than here?" She looks to the door hopeful that he would step into it at the mention of his name.
"No, he was banished from the pack lands Alora.." I look behind me, only an empty corridor outside.
"By whom?" Her eyebrow's furrow,
"By Kaia..."
She doesn't say anything, just gives a confirming simple nod that she acknowledges what I have just told her. She must know it is for the best, that his absence from her life is what she needs, what we all need. She's quiet even as the doctor walks in and carries out his post operation assessments. I remain back by the door, giving him room to work when a nurse walks in with a tray of food.
"Well, this is wonderful news. You seem to be making a good recovery Miss Alora. If you can stomach it, do try and eat but fluid will help more than anything."
Thank you doctor. Any news on Alpha?" She asks the doctor who places her chart at the end of her bed.
"He's not conscious yet, any moment now though. He, like you, responded well during surgery." The doctor replies as he leaves the room, leaving us alone again.
