Chapter 37
Chapter 37
Bernard walked over and gently squeezed Gisele’s hand. He whispered, “Gigi, let’s be wise here. It’s better not to pick this kid, okay? Trust me.”
She couldn’t help but smile wryly at his words. She had never considered accepting,
Johnson’s proposal. She treated him like a younger brother. So, how could she ever consider being with him?
Just as Gisele was about to shake her head, a tall figure pushed through the crowd.
Without a word, the man’s hand came down hard on her face.
Her ch*ek stung as it was turned to the side, and it swelled visibly within moments.
“Bitch! Hurry up and apologize to Mr. Jefferson! Embarrassing yourself is one thing, but who the hell are you trying to drag the Meyer family down with you?”
The man’s words were slurred due to alcohol.
Yet, Gisele stood tall. Her slender frame seemed particularly fragile amidst the crowd.
At that moment, her once hopeful eyes brimmed with sorrow. She stared at her brother, Gordon Meyer, as he continued to hurl insults at her.
“What are you staring at? Do you have a problem?” He raised his hand again, as if to strike her into submission.
Dorian’s cold gaze swept over them. His large hand swiftly intercepted Gordon’s. “That’s enough.”
A contemptuous snort could be heard, as if mocking them.
But Gordon remained oblivious and tried to curry favor with Dorian. “Mr. Jefferson, don’t worry. Our family would never produce such disgraceful offspring.
“If she refuses to comply, I’ll hit her until she does. I’ll ensure she becomes the perfect wife for you!”
Gisele felt a chill enveloping her, like she had plunged into an icy abyss.
While Dorian’s actions felt like needles piercing her heart, Gordon’s felt like a death sentence. Despite being siblings, Gordon treated her like an enemy. He even wished she was dead.
“What gives you the right to hit someone? We live in a society governed by laws!” Johnson
criticized him bluntly.
Cearly intoxicated, Gordon chuckled dismissively.
“What gives me the right? I’m her brother. And who do you think you are, kid? Do you really think you’re good enough for my sister? Mr. Jefferson, what’s your take on this?”
Dorian raised an eyebrow and smirked. “How dare you compete with me for a woman?”

Johnson’s eyes blazed with anger, and his fists clenched as he moved to strike Dorian.
But just as his fist was about to connect, Jon appeared out of nowhere and grabbed Johnson’s hand, sending him awkwardly to the floor.
“Stop!” Gisele shouted.
Ignoring her plea, Jon stepped on Johnson’s back and deliberately exerted force.
As the bystanders realized the altercation had escalated into physical violence, those wary of legal consequences hastily dispersed.
Even those who had intended to capture the scene on camera deleted their photos cautiously, afraid of becoming Jon’s next target.
With the crowd dispersing, the once bustling night market felt eerily deserted.
Jon lifted his foot from Johnson’s back, who struggled to rise. But he was knocked down again before he could regain his footing.
Then, Jon pressed his foot onto Johnson’s fingers with chilling indifference as he deliberately increased the pressure.
Gisele’s eyes welled with tears as she collapsed beside Jon. Desperately, she clung to his foot and shook her head. “Please, don’t be so merciless!
After all, Johnson was just a young man. Crushing his hand would be devastating for him. Those hands were as vital to him as his very life. They were his means of survival.
With tear–filled eyes, Gisele looked up at Dorian. She cried and shook her head desperately. Dorian, please let him go. I lied to you earlier. I never wanted to be with him. I swear.”
When hearing Gisele’s words, Dorian let out a breath he hadn’t realized he was holding. But seeing her cry so bitterly for a stranger still made him uneasy.
