Chapter 31
Sydney jerked up in a jump start, rushing to check what time it was. “Shit!!” She cursed, throwing the phone on the bed without no care if it fell on the wrong side.
“What’s getting you all riled up?” Jaxton asked, slipping off the bed.
“It’s 10am already, we better hurry”
“Shit!!” He cursed, grabbed a towel and took a quick run into the bathroom. “You better join me if you don’t want to have my smell on you.” He shouted to her and Sydney joined him on the realization of that.
Sydney had finished dressing up but Jaxton was holding her back. She glanced at the time and scoffed at seeing that he was still struggling with his tie. Not wanting to waste another minute waiting for him to knot his tie she decided to help him with it.
“See, simple.” She smiled as she slipped the tie into his shirt. He appreciated her with a smile and as they walked out of the hotel room he stole a kiss from her.
Their car galloped into the company’s driveway and Sydney hurried out but not after blowing powder on her face and applying lipstick to her lips.
A hand slipped into hers and she yanked it off, throwing him a stern glare, “we shouldn’t be seen holding hands else they will get the wrong idea.” She bluttered.
“Fix your hormones before going in, you’re turning red just by my harmless stare” he said slyly and started walking ahead of her.
Sydney was embarrassed and gave her face a quick pat accompanied with two deep breaths before moving to join in.
The elevator doors opened revealing Paxton, Sydney took a step back in shock. She wasn’t expecting to see Paxton in the elevator of all places.
Not wanting to look weird Jaxton smiled at her and made eye contact with her. He coughed slightly and smiled at Paxton.
Paxton was finding them unusual and judging by Sydney’s stiffen posture he coded that something was off. Pacton held them at the corner of his eyes and mused when they finally joined him.
His mood changes instantly, he couldn’t fathom why the duo would wait in at the same time and with shocked expressions hovering all over their faces. Jaxton was good at hiding his but Sydney’s was too obvious, she had this face of a kid gotten caught in stealing biscuits.
Sydney felt awkward, she tried so hard to keep a plain face but it seemed she wasn’t trying hard enough. Her countenance changed when she met the taunting gaze of Paxton which was driving straight into her skin.
The tension that built around them was suddenly becoming unhealthy to her, she bit her lip in fright and faced down that way he wouldn’t be able to get a clearer picture of her face.
For a fact Sydney was well aware that Jaxton and Paxton hadn’t been on good terms with each other and that was as a result of her going on a business trip with Paxton. Since she came back from the trip she hasn’t seen them talk, not even for a second.Content © NôvelDrama.Org 2024.
Jaxton was annoyed Paxton asked Sydney to be his accomplice when he was fully aware that they were in a relationship. He looked up to the days Paxton hated Sydney and treated her with spite.
Dings…
The elevator doors opened and they stepped out, getting a chance to breath in good air. They both head to their various offices without uttering a word and Sydney was glad no suspicions were throwed.
Sydney was buried deep into work when her phone beeped, she peeked at it and discovered it was a text message from Paxton. Abandoning the files on her desk she clicked on the message and read it within herself, “If you ever feel the need to blush, sneak into my office I have a lot of sweet words to say to you.”
Her stomach dribbles, bubbling with different kinds of sensations. She read the message over and over, getting swept off with his play of words. Actually she was liking the tingling feeling the message was incurring into her.
She was so immersed in the text that she had no idea Paxton was standing before her with hands deeply shoved into his pockets.
She blushed continuously and found the need to drop the phone, the smile still lingering on her face. As she made to resume her work she met the shock of her life.
Her eyes raised to humanly possible, her mouth slightly parted. “Sir-pax- ” she sought for words to say but none came in.
“You are busy staring at your phone during work hours?” His voice came out rough and reeked of jealousy.
Sydney gulped down nothing and immediately stood up from her chair joining her palms in a plea. “I was lost for a couple of minutes, promise not to repeat ” she didn’t know for how long Paxton had stood watching her hence she had to plead.
The look on his face could match with horror and the disdain it withheld was something she couldn’t put a finger into. Seeing there were no changes in his experience she pushed her lips into her mouth and gulped, taking back her seat.
Paxton gazed at Sydney, jealousy taking the better of him. As much as he would want to hide it he was curious and that prompted him to ask. “What did you and Jaxton do to make you come in with him?”
His question threw her off balance causing her to flutter her lashes, blinking rapidly.
She bathed her lashes at him, taking her lips as the best option to lean on. She chewed on her lip, flipping her hair behind her ear in an attempt to avoid the question.
Deep down inside she was freaking out, it was as if she was about to get cooked. She thought of a better lie to give but couldn’t come up with one.
She was nervous, she couldn’t tell him where she went with Jaxton nor make mention of what transpired within them. She prayed within herself that this moment comes to pass.
