Chapter 688
Chapter 688
While the entire office staff worked with reluctance, Kirk was the exact opposite. Although he
seemed to be relaxing at home, his mind was actually on work all of the time.
The corner of his lips tilted upward in a smile. It was his life’s greatest joy to be able to see
Caroline constantly. Content is property © NôvelDrama.Org.
It was all worth it. Even if it meant he had to go out of his way to pretend that he didn’t have a job. He didn’t want to lose Caroline again.
He “resigned” after he considered cutting ties with the Morrison family. He also wanted to watch
out for Caroline.
Jude’s death had indeed affected her, even though she seemed unfazed. As long as her trauma was left undealt with, she was a ticking bomb that could go off at any moment.
Kirk’s smile vanished at this thought. The joy in his eyes now replaced by a sheet of coldness.
In the study, Marietta had just finished reading the script Caroline had written. Stunned, she looked up at Caroline.
“Carrie, did you really write this?” asked Marietta.
“What’s wrong? Is it that horrible?”
“That’s not it,” Marietta assured her. “You’ve improved so much in such a short period of time. Is someone in your family involved with literature?”
Caroline tried to recall if there was anyone in the Evans family who wrote for a living. “Nope,” she said.
It didn’t matter if it was Dan or Sarah; both of them were parasites regardless. Neither of them worked hard themselves to achieve what they had today, much less work as a writer,
“Well then, you’re very talented at scriptwriting. You’re just like me.” Marietta wasn’t abashed in the slightest when complimenting herself.
“Keep up the good work,” Marietta encouraged. “I’ll introduce you to some publishers once you’ve completed it. We’ll see how that goes.”
“Huh? Are you sure about that? I wrote it just for fun,” Caroline said, slightly taken aback.
“Are you telling me that you wrote this without giving it much thought?” Marietta exclaimed.” You’ll definitely earn a Nobel prize if you start taking it seriously.”
“You must be kidding ” Caroline was close to believing Marietta’s words.

“I’m not.” Marietta wore a serious expression. “You’re truly talented at this. If you put some effort into it, I’m sure you’ll be able to create something astounding.”
“All you need to do is take note of what goes on later on in the story,” said Marietta. “What you’ve written is good enough for the moment.”
It never crossed Caroline’s mind that her first draft would receive such high praise. “Alright. I’ll carry on writing.”
“Remember to see me when you’re done with it. I’ll refine it for you,” Marietta reminded.
“Okay,” Caroline happily agreed to it. After chatting for some time, the two walked out of the room
Kirk heard them coming and quickly pretended to be occupied with a game.
“I’m heading back,” said Marietta as she stole a sideways glance at Kirk. “Someone’s mad at me for taking up so much of your time today.”
Caroline laughed. It occurred to her that Marietta loved teasing Kirk for no apparent reason.
Caroline wanted to see Marietta off, but Marietta was against the idea. She insisted on riding the elevator alone.
Once Marietta got into the elevator, the smile on her face vanished completely. It took a lot out of her to stop thinking about the incident with her daughter. But without Caroline by her side, she immediately remembered it in the quietness.
As a means to divert her attention elsewhere, Marietta took out her phone. She was about to start scrolling on social media when she saw a message from her assistant.
Her eyes lit up when she read its contents.
