“Do you think that your wife here is still a young woman who could charm every other man? You’re just overthinking it. Would you prefer that I shave my head off and dress like a nun? Wouldn’t that worry you less?” Stella replied helplessly.

“Sean wouldn’t want me there,” Stella answered cautiously.

“Are you going to let go of this opportunity just because he doesn’t want you there?” Bellamy asked her in return, “I even got you the answers for the entry tests.”

Stella chuckled and explained, “I’m sure that everyone would have already known that whatever happened to Christian and the Director of the Education Department were all single-handedly caused by me. Another issue will soon arise if I were to start working in the Department of External Affairs.”

“Why are you afraid of that? With me by your side, no one would be bold enough to lay a finger on you,” Bellamy answered with confidence.

Stella paused for a moment as she thought of an answer.

“Since the recruitment will be happening after the New Year celebration, I don’t see the need to rush. Why don’t we spend our New Year’s together on the island? We should also invite Mom too. I wouldn’t want her to feel lonely,” Stella suggested.

“On New Year’s?” Bellamy paused for a moment as he thought of a suitable response.

“What’s wrong?” Stella asked when she saw Bellamy’s worried expression.

“Our circumstances and our identities are different from what they were before. There wouldn’t be strict security on the island because most of the soldiers will be on break at that time. Even if they’re not, they would probably be on low morale as they would be thinking about their family too. I was thinking maybe we shouldn’t go anywhere during New Year’s. What do you think?” Bellamy explained his thoughts.

Stella felt that Bellamy’s concerns were valid, “Will you be here during New Year’s then?”

“Of course.”

Stella nodded in agreement. She wanted to spend time together with him since this would be their very first New Year’s together.

All of a sudden, Stella’s phone rang. It was an unknown number. She quickly picked up the call as she figured that it must be from the mercenaries whom Allen had sought out for her.

“Hello, is this Stella Grace? My name is Kieran, and I just got your number from Allen,” The person spoke in fluent French.

“Hello. Yes, I have a mission for you. I need you to protect someone for me. The situation is a little complicated as he is currently in a hideout where no ordinary person would have access to. I’ll need at least five people for this job. However, please bear in mind that your lives would be in danger should anyone find out about this. Do you think that you could  do this?” Stella asked.

“No problem. Just send me a picture and the biography of the particular person. We will depart from our base now and we should reach there by tonight,” Kieran answered with confidence.

“Also, I will be paying the service fees. Allen is just a friend of mine, so I couldn’t possibly let him pay it,” Stella reminded Kieran.

She figured that Allen must have settled everything for her because Kieran didn’t even mention the price.

“I see. You’d need to talk to Allen about this then. He has already paid half of our monthly wages. I’ll get everything prepared before coming over. I’ll be hanging up the call now,” Kieran then hung up the call hurriedly.

Stella was left with no other choice but to call Allen.

“Did Kieran already contact you?” Allen guessed.

“Allen, you don’t have to pay the fees for me. I could afford it on my own. How much was it? I’ll pay you back right now.’

“I just earned a hundred million dollars, thanks to you. Consider this as your commission. We’re friends, so let’s not talk about money, okay?” Allen said to her firmly.

Stella knew that there was a certain implication to his words. If she were to reject his money, it meant that they could no longer be friends.

“Alright, I’ll consider it as your gift for me then. No singing for me then,” Stella couldn’t help but accept Allan’s generous offer.

Allen laughed on the other side of the phone, “Are you sure that you don’t want it anymore?”

Meanwhile, Bellamy’s face was getting redder by the minute. He stepped forward and snatched her phone away. He responded fiercely, “I am her boyfriend and I’m sure of it. Thank you and goodbye!”

He hung up the call promptly.

Stella was speechless.

“I’m telling you. He’s trying to pursue you,” Bellamy explained as he threw her phone on the table.

Stella pursed her lips and smiled.

She was touched by his overbearing yet genuine character.

When Bellamy saw Stella smiling, he said to her in the sternest voice possible, “Why are you smiling? You are only allowed to smile at me and no one else!”

Stella nodded and quietly sat down on the chair.

Bellamy sat across her, locking both her legs with his knees as though he was punishing her.

In truth, he hoped to be the only man whom she would ever love throughout her life.

Stella grinned with an enormous smile on her face.

Bellamy was captivated by her smile and his lips gradually curled upwards. He looked at her lovingly and said, “You silly girl.”

Both of them went through the test papers together after that.

Stella sneaked a peek at Bellamy while he was focused on his work. She felt that maybe the idea of them working together in the Department of External Affairs might not be too bad after all. She longed for a moment in time where she worked with Jasper every day like how they used to be, instead of hiding under his care all the time.

Her only hope is that Eli would finally forgive her one day…

Eli realized that the training ground for the Invisibles was located far away. They had been on the road for the past three hours, yet it was still nowhere to be seen.

She started to feel a little bored. Her phone couldn’t keep her company as she felt a little dizzy and nauseous after playing a few games. She decided to keep her phone and turned toward Sean.

His eyes were closed. Eli was unsure if he had fallen asleep or if he was just resting his eyes.

The setting sunlight shone on his face and made his features looked even more defined. This man also had flawless skin. If he were a girl, he would have made countless men fall for him.

At that moment, Eli suddenly thought of their son.

He was growing day by day. Half a year ago, he still looked very much like Sean. Six months later, he now had double eyelids and his eyes seemed to grow bigger, resembling Eli’s.

Apart from his eyes, he looked exactly like Sean. Could it be that their son had only inherited their good genes?

Eli’s heart calmed down as she thought about their son. At least she was certain that his son will grow to be a good-looking man. She hoped that he would find a kind, gentle, and loving wife like Yvonne or Stella, rather than someone like herself.

Eli giggled as she thought about these infinite possibilities.

Sean opened his eyes and stared at her for a while. He leaned forward and put his arms around her shoulders, “What’s so funny? Tell me?”

“I was just thinking how our future daughter-in-law would look like,” she said. At that moment, she realized that she had misspoken.

Wasn’t she hinting that their son was still alive then?

Thankfully, Sean didn’t give it much thought. Instead, he replied to her simply, “Someone like you.”

“I’ll pass if she’s anything like me. Even I could barely put up with myself. I’m too aggressive and upfront.”

Sean chuckled, “Ah, so you’re aware that you’re a shrew too, huh?”

“If I’m a shrew, then you would be a beast,” Eli said as she counterargued Sean.

“Wasn’t it you who said that you are difficult to deal with?”

“Only I can say that about myself. No one else is allowed to say that, not even you.” Eli showed him a disgusted look and pushed him away as she turned to look out of the window.

Sean grabbed her waist gently and leaned toward her as he whispered, “Since you’re sleeping with a beast every night, wouldn’t you turn into a little beast too?”

Eli’s face instantaneously turned red.

Sean’s sweet talk made Eli’s heart pound even faster than before. His behavior would completely change whenever he flirted with her.
