Betrayal At The Altar

Chapter 668

Chapter 668

Yann pressed his lips together. “Miss Grey, if I may be so bold, how did you manage to figure it out?”

Only moments ago, one of his subordinates had called to inform him that the codes on both the car frame and engine had been tampered with, rendering them impossible to trace.

If Rachel wasn’t the mastermind behind it all, how had she managed to deduce the truth?

Rachel was not at all perturbed by Yann’s audacity.

She replied nonchalantly. “Just a stroke of luck.”

Yann was speechless.

He inhaled deeply, composing himself, and adopted an earnest demeanor as he sought her insight. His manner of addressing her grew exceedingly respectful. “In that case, what do you believe was the purpose behind the culprit’s actions?”

The primary motive, of course, was to target David.

However, he couldn’t fathom why the perpetrator would take such a roundabout approach.

He knew that disassembling and reassembling a car was an intricate process,

particularly when incorporating an autonomous driving system.

Noticing his baffled demeanor, Rachel patiently explained, “The purpose was to ensure that when the truth came to light, you wouldn’t be able to trace them. Preserving the appearance of the off-road vehicle was meant to mislead you. As you mentioned, both the car frame and the engine have unique codes. The perpetrator destroyed those codes to leave you with nothing to investigate.”

“Once you can’t trace them, you’ll broaden your search, suspecting those who lurk in the shadows. The real perpetrator can then easily blend in with your imagined adversaries.”

At her words, David’s eyes filled with affection and indulgence that no one had ever witnessed before.

His Rae-Rae was truly brilliant.

Her words, however, exposed the true power she had been concealing all along.

At the very least, to everyone present, Rachel’s expertise in car modifications went far beyond just idle tinke ring.

Her knowledge of automobiles had already surpassed that of both Billy and Yann.

At this moment, Yann’s impression of Rachel shifted significantly. He didn’t hold back, saying, “It’s a shame the adversary’s well-intended plan couldn’t come to fruition.”

Each word dripped with sarcasm aimed at the mastermind behind the scenes.

Rachel responded co olly, “Do you really think those three cars showing up at the T-junction was just a coincidence?”

“Wasn’t it to wait for us there?” Yann inquired.

Rachel glanced at him and sighed softly. “Those three vehicles were equipped with 4.0-liter

twin-turbocharged engines, capable of reaching up to 585 horsepower. If we hadn’t evaded in time, even our modified Rolls-Royce wouldn’t have saved us from a fatal crash.”

Thus, the appearance of the SUVs at the T-junction was no coincidence; it was a meticulously planned assassination attempt.

Upon hearing this, a wave of lingering fear welled up within Yann.

He had considered the outcome of the three cars colliding simultaneously, but never anticipated such a devastating and fatal result.

In previous assassination attempts, their enemies would typically only inflict injuries on their men, but now their audacity had grown bolder.

Their thoughts of taking down David became more and more unabashed.

On their return journey to Peckham Palace, with numerous pauses along the way, they finally reached the palace after a painstaking twenty minutes.

Yann opened the car door, watching Rachel and David walk away, still reeling from the shock.

He had initially believed her to be a decorative but useless ornament, yet now, it seemed Miss Grey was far from an ordinary young socialite.

Billy lit a cigarette, took a deep drag, exhaled a perfect smoke ring, and said nonchalantly, “Don’t lump. Miss Grey in with common, mundane women.”

She was, without a doubt, a fierce, unyielding force to be reckoned with!

“Didn’t you say she was just Miss Grey from the wealthiest family in Seaxas, the Johnson family?”

“Yes.” Billy nodded. “I warned you before not to underestimate someone our master takes interest in.”

As Yann was about to speak, Billy checked the time. “We should get going. Let’s get in the car and leave!”

“Almost forgot the main issue at hand!” With that, Yann opened the door and hopped into the car.

At the other end, upon returning to Peckham Palace, Rachel instinctively slipped out of her high heels and padded barefoot to the sofa, flinging herself into the plush cush ions.

David removed his suit jacket and unfastened his diamond cufflinks, leisurely rolling up his sleeves. “Did you modify the Mercedes-Benz G636X6?”

This was the same off-road vehicle that had charged at them back at the T-junction.

Rachel casually picked up a pillow, propping it under her head as she observed David head towards the open kitchen. “Lucas Johnson was the one who made the modifications.”

“Were you involved?” David approached Rachel, offering her a glass of freshly squeezed orange juice.

“No,” Rachel replied. “I only modified a G-Wagon, using his design as a guide.”

David arched an eyebrow, hardly surprised by her response.

After all, his Rae-Rae was far from the delicate, traditional young lady like Miss Grey; she was a strong- willed, independent woman.

Rachel accepted the juice, taking a sip. The sweetness was perfectly balanced.

She narrowed her eyes contentedly. “You don’t appear to be shocked by this incident.”

David cast his eyes downward, the corners of his lips lifting ever so slightly. “I’ve grown accustomed to such things. It’s hardly worth mentioning.” Exclusive content from NôvelDrama.Org.

His casual remark encapsulated the perils he’d encountered throughout the years.

Still, it caused an inexplicable tightening in Rachel’s chest.

When she first chose to be with David, Lucas had mentioned that David had innumerable adversaries, with an unknown number of individuals plotting against him, both openly and in secret.

Yet, throughout her time with David, they had never faced an assassination attempt that was genuinely perilous.

No place was more opportune for an attack than Seaxas.

What could be their motive for launching an attack in Aureliana instead?

Were they aiming to challenge David’s authority, or merely to send a message?

David had only just returned, and it appeared that their hidden foe could no longer contain themselves. What would unfold next?

Rachel cradled the cup, her fingertips gently tracing its surface. “Do you have any potential suspects?” “There are plenty of suspects,” David answered.

His answer appeared to address her inquiry, but at the same time, it felt as though he hadn’t truly revealed anything.

Nevertheless, this statement was sufficient to indicate that, for now, David was unable to definitively identify the culprit.

The three modified SUVs had meticulously removed all identifying marks, clearly not wishing to leave any evidence of their involvement.

Just then, the sound of footsteps reached them from outside.

Rachel languidly pushed herself up and glanced over, her gaze falling on a woman who had just entered

the room.

The woman donned a black leather jacket that accentuated her sultry curves, black Martin boots adorning her feet. Her fiery red curly hair was truly attention-grabbing.

With a pair of seductive eyes, the corners emphasized by white eyeliner, she exuded an air of irresistible allure.

Rachel quirked an eyebrow, glancing at David.

David explained, “Her name is Chris Jones. She’ll be following you from this point forward.”

“Follow me?”
