Chapter 176
“You’ve really dropped the ball! How can you do that?” Herman shouted in anger and, proposed the best solution he could think of, “Since you two are smitten with each other, we should sit down and discuss the wedding arrangements!”
The Moore family was certainly no less distinguished than the Sawyer family!
It was just Conrad’s reputation that was rather unsavory!
Under the watchful eyes of the crowd, Herman had no choice but to resort to this desperate measure. If not, Vivien would never find a suitor!
Mrs. Moore, on hearing this, was overjoyed. She’d snagged a wife for Conrad for free from the prestigious Sawyer family, no less!
But Conrad was not pleased. He shook his head and said, “Mr. Sawyer, matters of the heart must be mutual. What she and I shared was a fleeting tryst, nothing more. I have no intention of marriage.”
As if to stoke the flames of Herman, he added with a critical eye, “Her figure’s not bad, I’d give it a nine. But her makeup’s too heavy. Without it, she’s a six at best!”
He dissected Vivien with humiliating remarks, as if she was beneath him.
Finally, Conrad concluded with a dismissive statement, “I slept with her just to see what women Bainbridge fancies. Now that I have, I can say they’re nothing special.”
There had been a past rivalry between Conrad and Bainbridge. They had both vied for the affections of Fanny. Cunning Fanny had eluded Conrad’s grasp, leaving him with a bitter resentment.
In terms of looks and figure, Fanny was leagues beyond Vivien.
“You…” Herman trembled with
rage.
Vivien, humiliated, left with her face covered, sobbing uncontrollably.
“Mr. Sawyer, don’t you dare label me irresponsible. If she’s capable of such reckless behavior, then she’s no angel either.,” Conrad said self–righteously.
What an audacity!
Herman stormed off in a fury, ending the farce.
Conrad smacked his lips thoughtfully, considering that Vivien wasn’t all that bad. He had taken plenty of photos as leverage. Keeping her around as a go–to hook–up didn’t seem like a bad idea.

“Mrs. Moore, this drama has spoiled our Eaton banquet. Please leave, and we’ll return your gift money,” Alberta said coldly.
“This…“.
Although Mrs. Moore was seething, she dared not offend the Peterson family.
She could only drag Conrad away by the ear, scolding as they went, “Why can’t you control yourself? If a girl throws herself at you, can’t you just dodge?”
“Mom! She insisted on sleeping with me. What could I do?”

His brazen, absurd response left onlookers shaking their heads at the shamelessness of Conrad.
“Howard, that was a close one!” Valor finally found his voice.
He had never seen Howard so thunderously enraged. For a moment, he too had feared that it was Gwendolyn caught in the scandal.
As Howard looked down the corridor, his eyes settled on the girl in the pink dress, his lips twitching slightly. He knew as soon as he’d heard the scream upstairs that it wasn’t Gwendolyn,
He was all too familiar with her voice but had been too worried to think straight.
Yet he feared the unsettling noise might be linked to Gwendolyn’s disappearance, which was why he had let events unfold.
“Mr. Chadwick…” Gwendolyn approached softly, calling out to him.
She had watched the commotion from the fringes, puzzled why Vivien would engage in such acts with a man at such a grand event.
But the affairs of the Sawyer family were none of her concern.
Howard caught Gwendolyn’s wrist. His body was feverishly hot.
She looked up at him in surprise.
“Gwen, let’s go home,” he said hoarsely, his breath seemingly scorching the air.
