She was selecting a steaming cup of dark coffee for herself when she caught wind of it. The whispers reached her ears, demanding her attention.
“It truly wasn’t me!” she responded, shaking her head fervently.
“Huh… Then who else could it be?” Nelly was the sole patron in the office who lavishly treated them all. Although her colleagues weren’t impoverished, their wealth was far from substantial.
“I know who it is!” Sarah declared with a sly grin.
“Who is it?”
“Come on, enlighten us!”
“I probably shouldn’t. None of you would dare partake if the truth were revealed!” Sarah teased.
“I couldn’t give a damn even if the Boss himself funded this order!” one employee scoffed.Content rights by NôvelDr//ama.Org.
Taking advantage of the break, Nelly decided to join in the gossip. Sarah cast her a mischievous smile before glancing at Nelly and announcing, “Listen closely, all! The person responsible for this indulgence is none other than Mr. Morris!”
Every pair of eyes snapped towards Nelly in astonishment. Though Nelly hadn’t made the coffee purchase, she was the reason they were treated by Alpha Kilian.
“Sarah, are you certain?” even Nelly was taken aback.
“Of course I am! His name is boldly inscribed on the receipt!” Sarah handed it over to Nelly, who examined it with a mix of surprise and incredulity.
“Whoa!” the others erupted with excitement.
“Just so you all know, I had no inkling of his generosity! Regardless, we shouldn’t allow these cups of coffee to go to waste. I encourage everyone to help themselves!” Nelly declared. She didn’t possess an ounce of pretentiousness, and her genuine nature was refreshing to all.
Sarah promptly began dispensing the coffee to the rest of the employees while Nelly returned to her desk.
“Mr. Morris is certainly generous for treating us in such a manner!”
“He’s also asserting dominance and claiming Ms. Jackson as his own!”
“That’s not all! I suspect Mr. Morris is signaling for us to protect Ms. Jackson at work!”
Nelly simply smiled, neither confirming nor denying their assumptions.
“Please join us in expressing gratitude to Mr. Morris for the coffee, Ms. Jackson!”
“Certainly! I’ll let him know!” Nelly responded.
As the last cup of coffee was distributed, it was time to depart from work. Nelly, Ross, Tommy, and Chris chatted about work as they made their way out of the office building.
Stepping through the front door, they spotted the car parked by the roadside, the same one they had seen earlier. The driver emerged from the car upon noticing them. Ross, Tommy, and Chris instinctively kept a safe distance from Nelly upon seeing Alpha Kilian. A sense of relief and satisfaction washed over Alpha Kilian as he observed their reaction.
“Good day, Mr. Morris!” the trio greeted in unison as he approached them.
“On behalf of all the employees, I extend my gratitude for the coffee, Mr. Morris!” Chris added.
Alpha Kilian nodded, his smile beaming. “No need for thanks. I heard how you guys protected Nelly when there was trouble at the office, but I haven’t had the chance to properly express my appreciation. Upon contemplation, I thought treating you all to coffee would serve as a token of my gratitude.”
The trio were slightly taken aback that Alpha Kilian was aware of the incident.
“We were merely doing our duty!” Chris promptly responded.
“Absolutely! Ms. Jackson is our boss, and it’s only natural that we keep her safe!” Ross interjected.
“Precisely!” Tommy chimed in agreement.
Will this be sufficient in the eyes of Alpha Kilian? Do we come across as scheming in his perception? Alpha Kilian nodded approvingly.
“Very well. Your service will not be forgotten!”
Tommy and Ross exchanged excited glances upon hearing Alpha Kilian’s words.
Eager to end the conversation, Nelly glanced at Alpha Kilian and asked, “What brings you here?”
Alpha Kilian’s eyes brimmed with affection as he answered, “Donna called earlier. Sharon wishes to discuss Donna’s contract over a meal. Consequently, I thought I’d swing by to pick you up from work.”
Nelly remained unruffled by the news. “Goodbye, guys!” she waved to Ross, Tommy, and Chris.
Chris nodded. “Farewell!”
Ross offered her a polite smile. “Take care!”
“Stay sweet, you two!” Tommy ingratiatingly smiled.
Nelly froze and spun around, glaring at him in response. In contrast, Alpha Kilian broke into a wide smile. Ross and Tommy breathed sighs of relief only once they had entered the car.
“Phew! Do you think we handled that well?” Tommy inquired.
“Sneaking in that ‘stay sweet’ remark was a crafty move, you little rascal! I considered telling them how perfect they are together!” Ross exclaimed with disdain and anger.
I can play the brown-noser too! “It’s not my fault you didn’t think of it!” Tommy retorted.
“Will Mr. Morris perceive our intentions correctly with that remark?” Ross queried.
“I believe so. Our intentions were made unequivocally clear just now!” Tommy reassured.
“Oh, please! You two are overestimating yourselves if you believe Mr. Morris sees you as competitors!” Chris sighed, shaking his head in resignation.
Tommy and Ross furrowed their brows, exchanging glances before reaching an agreement. “He’s right! It’s perfectly logical!”
“Exactly! There’s no way Mr. Morris even considers us competitors!”
With a weight lifted off their shoulders, the three of them made their way home.
Meanwhile, Alpha Kilian leaned closer to Nelly as soon as she settled into the passenger seat. Though slightly surprised, she remained seated, gazing at him without reciprocating. Alpha Kilian maintained unbroken eye contact as he reached for her seat belt, deliberately brushing against her body in the process.
“Thank you,” Nelly murmured when she comprehended his actions. Alpha Kilian felt his mood soar upon witnessing her blush.
“You’re welcome,” he replied as he secured her seat belt.
Intensely affectionate, his gaze made it difficult for Nelly to meet his eyes directly.
“Ross and Tommy simply enjoy jesting, so don’t take their words seriously,” Nelly assured him.
Alpha Kilian arched an eyebrow, clearly amused. “Jokes? What are you referring to?”
