A man standing across from them. He had seen the man before at Infinitium, and the latter was seemingly that woman’s son. From the look in the man’s eyes, however, Spencer’s intuition howled at him that something wasn’t right. In an instant, he feigned a cough and turned his gaze to Nelly.
“I’ll wait for you outside.” After uttering those words, he strode forward with purpose and exited with a sinister smile playing on his lips. Nelly stood her ground, locking eyes with Alpha Zachary. It had only been a few moons since their last encounter, yet he seemed to have morphed into an entirely different creature. The boisterousness of his past pack, Moonwalk, was nowhere to be found, replaced by a weariness that betrayed the passage of time. And yet, a mature aura clung to him.
Alpha Zachary hadn’t anticipated crossing paths with Nelly in the heart of the sacred hospital. The moment their gazes intertwined, an unbearable ache clenched at a part of his heart. Keeping his eyes fixed upon her, he approached. “It’s been too long,” he stated.
“Indeed, it has been quite some time,” Nelly replied calmly. “Why… are you here?” Alpha Zachary inquisitively questioned, his eyes firmly locked onto hers. “I came to seek your father’s counsel on a matter.” Nelly remained as composed as ever.
Reflexively, Alpha Zachary narrowed his eyes at her. “Alpha Kilian sent you?” “No, he knows nothing of this,” she responded. A pang of hurt radiated from Alpha Zachary’s gaze, his brows furrowing as he contemplated. “So, you came on your own accord?”
“I came for my own sake,” Nelly asserted. Alpha Zachary inhaled deeply, the residue of alcohol leaving a faint crimson in his eyes. His gaze pierced hers. “Nelly, I know my parents treated you unfairly, but this fight between the Lucas family and Alpha Kilian is a personal grudge. I hope you won’t meddle any further!” he declared.
“I was the cause of it all, so I cannot stand idly by,” Nelly insisted. “In other words, you are resolved to aid Alpha Kilian?” “If that’s how you choose to perceive it,” she responded. Alpha Zachary somberly gazed at her, his eyes filled with a weighty intensity. “Furthermore, I would advise your father to cease this endeavor. If he continues down this treacherous path, he will suffer irrevocable losses!” With that, Nelly said no more.
She spun on her heel and made her departure. “Nelly!” Alpha Zachary suddenly called out to her. He turned around, fixing his eyes upon her retreating figure. “Am I truly so insignificant to you? Even as a mere friend, do you possess such indifference towards me?” “If I didn’t consider you a friend, you can’t fathom the state they would be in now!” she retorted.
Nelly wasted no time and left without delay. Alpha Zachary stared at her departing form, his fists clenched at his sides. Fury etched itself upon his visage, his unrestrained rage palpable to all who bore witness. “In that case, Nelly, do not expect any mercy from me! One day, you shall comprehend who is truly deserving of you!”
Within the confines of the hospital room, Desmond’s apprehension grew as the door swung open. He jolted, only to see Alpha Zachary standing there, his eyes harboring an enigmatic glimmer. “It’s you?” he drawled.
Without hesitation, he sneered, “So, you still remember your father and deign to pay me a visit, huh?” Alpha Zachary strolled over, his gaze fixated upon the man. Skipping pleasantries, he swiftly got to the point. “What did she inquire of you just now?”
“Who are you referring to?” “You know exactly who I’m referring to!” Alpha Zachary snarled. At the mention of Nelly, Desmond’s eyes darted around, guilt tainting his countenance. “What could she possibly want from me? Naturally, she wants me to surrender in the face of the Morris family!” “Is that all?”
“What else could there be?” Desmond retorted, his guilt weighing heavily in his voice. He lifted his eyes to glare at Alpha Zachary. “Surprised that she would ask me that? Or are you here to interrogate me as well?” Alpha Zachary fell silent, his gaze lingering, before he remarked, “Father, you are no match for Alpha Kilian!” Reluctant as he was to admit it, the reality was stark.
Lucas Corporation going up against Alpha Kilian was akin to a lone ant attacking an elephant. It may appear painful, but it would ultimately be ineffectual. Any aftermath would be temporary, exerting negligible impact. Desmond knew this all too well, yet he found himself without alternatives. His eyes narrowed, emitting a sliver of frustration. “And? What is your point? Do you intend to persuade me to surrender? What about Lucas Corporation then? What will become of all I have built with my blood, sweat, and tears over the years? Am I to watch it crumble to ruins?” “But what purpose does this serve, apart from tarnishing Morris Corporation’s reputation?” Alpha Zachary countered.
“It may be so, but it is better than doing nothing at all. Even if I were to perish, I would drag him down with me!” Desmond declared fiercely. “The best course of action now would be to shutter Lucas Corporation,” Alpha Zachary proposed. Desmond could hardly believe his ears. His eyes narrowed further as they bore into his son. “What did you just say? R-Repeat it.”
“I understand that it is difficult for you to accept, but fear not. If you listen to me, I promise your life shall remain unscathed-” Slap! Mid-sentence, before Alpha Zachary could finish speaking, Desmond erupted from his seat and delivered a resounding slap across his son’s face. Glaring at his offspring, he barked, “Initially, I planned to hand over Lucas Corporation to you for management.”Original from NôvelDrama.Org.
“But now, it seems I was naively mistaken. Handing it to you would only result in its ruin sooner or later, without any external interference. How could I have such a useless son?” His anger shook him to the core, rendering him trembling. The blow Alpha Zachary received was solid, leaving a crimson palm print upon his cheek and a trickle of blood at the corner of his mouth. Yet, he remained neither frantic nor furious.
Wiping away the blood, he merely regarded Desmond with a smirk playing upon his lips. “In that case, continue dreaming as you cling to your Lucas Corporation.” Without another word, he swiftly turned on his heel and exited. Desmond watched his son’s retreating figure, his rage nearly causing him to burst a blood vessel. “You think you can fight Alpha Kilian for his woman with an attitude like that? He won’t even have to lift a finger for you to cower in cowardice!”
At the sound of these words, Alpha Zachary halted in his tracks. He turned around, his eyes chillingly cold. “And why would I be wrong?” Desmond huffed. “That woman is clever enough to know that you are utterly unreliable!” Alpha Zachary’s obsidian eyes narrowed to slits, emanating an eerie sense of terror. “Until the very end, we cannot determine who emerges victorious.” With that said, he redirected his gaze and strode out. “Desmond could not fathom the meaning behind his son’s words. He is unreliable, so I can only rely on myself. I will not yield, even if I must fight to the death!”
