A few even took out their phones to capture the moment, their fingers trembling with excitement.
“Who is she? Have you seen her before?” a man growled, his voice laced with curiosity.
“Nay, I have not!” another snarled in response, his eyes narrowing.
“She is so ravishing. Could she be a werewolf from a renowned pack?” a voice whispered in awe.
“Just look at her presence. She carries the air of a born leader!” another voice chimed in.
“Perhaps Morris Corporation is backing a new alpha female?” a skeptical voice suggested.
“Never have I heard of such a venture by Morris Corporation!” a voice exclaimed.
“By the moon, she is a bewitching sight. If she chooses to embrace our world as a fierce warrior or a melodious songstress, she shall reign supreme!” a voice howled.
“I believe the same. Never have my lupine eyes witnessed such ethereal beauty!” a voice snarled.
“Why not approach her and uncover the secrets she conceals?” a voice dared, a hint of mischief lacing his words.
“Are you so foolish? She is no ordinary she-wolf. Did you not see the assistant of Alpha Kilian trailing behind her? This woman holds connections, both powerful and dangerous. Are you willing to risk offending the alpha and inviting doom upon yourself?” a voice warned, a shiver running through his words.
“Your words hold wisdom. I thank you for reminding me, brother!” a voice whispered gratefully.
“Let us watch and perceive what unfolds!” a voice decided, anticipation dripping from his voice.
With a glance, Fabian observed the crowd, witnessing their hushed conversations. He had anticipated their reactions from the beginning.
I dare say, Mr. Morris has a hidden motive behind this enchanting display.
His eyes darted towards Nelly, noticing her nonchalance amidst the chaos. She carried herself as if the whispers around her were but a distant echo.
Finding solace in a secluded corner, she gracefully clutched a glass of crimson liquid, her golden eyes scanning the vicinity.
Nelly noticed Fabian’s lingering presence and scowled in his direction. “Fabian.”
“Yes, Ms. Jackson,” Fabian replied, his voice tinged with respect.
“This lavish gathering seems to capture your attention. Should you not attend to your duties?” Nelly inquired, her tone laced with amusement.
“Indeed, but…” Fabian hesitated, his words caught in his throat.
“Since your hands are occupied, there is no need for you to linger here,” Nelly stated firmly, asserting her independence. “Fear not, for I am no naive pup who will wander astray. Rest assured, I shall remain here long after your tasks are complete.”
“But…” Fabian attempted to interject, only to be interrupted by a frantic messenger who whispered something urgent in his ear, causing his brows to furrow with concern.
With a solemn expression, Fabian turned to face Nelly. “Ms. Jackson, I implore you to stay here awhile. Matters demand my immediate attention, and I shall return posthaste.”
Nelly nodded, her features serene. “Very well, go attend to your business.”
He left with haste, urgency guiding his steps.
Nelly heaved a sigh of relief as Fabian departed. Without his watchful gaze, she felt liberated.
Relaxing into the plush couch, she savored the taste of the crimson elixir, her mind drifting away.
Rarely did Nelly partake in these lavish affairs, finding them mundane and tiresome.
Amidst the facade of glamour and smiles, each guest concealed their own ulterior motives and desires, their charades drawing out her weariness. Oh, how she longed for the solitude of her den, where she could rest undisturbed.
Yet, here she stood, questioning her decision to attend without pondering the nature of the event. What was I thinking?
Nevertheless, she was present now, and she embraced the role as repayment for a favor, refusing to dwell on the matter further.
Unfortunately, no respite awaited her as a man approached, his suave facade failing to mask his intentions. “Good evening, my enchanting beauty. Do you find yourself unaccompanied tonight?”
Nelly cast him an indifferent glance. “Nay.”
Regret flickered in the man’s eyes as he offered a half-hearted apology. “My apologies for the intrusion.”
Nelly believed that was the end of it, but to her dismay, more wolves approached, their attempts at seduction leaving her displeased. She surveyed her surroundings before deciding to flee.
Silently slipping through a side door, she entered the moonlit backyard. Most attendees busied themselves with superficial affairs, leaving the backyard abandoned and untamed.
Night descended, the cool breeze whispering against her fur.
Nelly found solace in the tranquility of the untamed outdoors. The air itself brought a soothing calmness to her agitated spirit.
Yet, her guard faltered as she heard a voice emanating from behind her.
“Nelly.”
Turning to the sound of her name, she stood frozen in place as she beheld the figure of Alpha Zachary. Her once inscrutable gaze masked her inner turmoil.
Zachary, donned in a sleek suit and polished leather shoes, exuded a solemn aura, his presence more intimidating than ever before.
It had been far too long since Nelly last encountered him. She couldn’t help but notice the change in him, his leaner form and the somberness that coated his once clear eyes.
A small smile graced Nelly’s lips as she acknowledged him. “It has indeed been a while.”
“It is truly you!” Zachary exclaimed, a mix of joy and sorrow shimmering in his voice.
He had spotted Nelly the moment she entered the vicinity.
Zachary had always found her captivating, but seeing her adorned in exquisite attire and subtle enhancements, she appeared otherworldly, akin to a celestial being.
Her beauty captivated all, including him. His initial resolve to let her go had dissipated in an instant.
Nelly replied coyly, “Do I have the appearance of a stranger?”
“You are an entity of unparalleled beauty. For a moment, I feared approaching you!” Zachary confessed.
Nelly pursed her lips, her silence conveying more than words ever could.
Suddenly, Zachary inched closer, standing directly before her. He hesitated before broaching the uncomfortable topic. “I sought to contact you, but my calls went unanswered. I believed you had forsaken any desire to speak to me.”
Nelly locked eyes with him, an enigmatic gaze that hid her inner turmoil.
Zachary’s gaze never wavered. “I discovered later that it was my mother who incited such chaos within your pack. Hence, I attempted to reach out in hopes of offering my sincerest apologies.”
Nelly closed her eyes, her voice carrying a tinge of bitterness. “Surely, you are aware of the conflict that arose between your mother and me.”
Zachary’s eyes bored into hers, a maelstrom of emotions churning within.
Nelly met his gaze and explained calmly, “You don’t have to apologize to me. I didn’t show mercy then and will never show mercy to her. Since you don’t blame me for what I did, I have no reason to be angry with you either.”
If Zachary did not mind what Nelly had done to his mother, she had no reason to hold his mother’s actions against him. Therefore, she would not look down on Zachary because of his unruly mother.
Previously, she did not answer his calls not because she had been angry. She did not pick up because she did not know if Zachary had called to explain or berate her. At the time, she did not mind ending their friendship. Truthfully, she would prefer for him to have told her off and ended their friendship. However, that was only her opinion. It did not mean that Zachary thought the same.
After a while, Zachary finally spoke. “I might not have been there, but I could imagine the harsh words she had said and the things she had done…”
Nelly still did not speak.Material © NôvelDrama.Org.
Zachary chuckled and went on, “So, why would I blame you? I was afraid that you would look down on me…”
Zachary could neither control nor get rid of his mother. Despite his frustration, he was helpless to do so.
“No,” Nelly replied. “What she did has nothing to do with you.”
“Do you think so?” Zachary’s eyes brightened with a glint of hope.
Nelly nodded earnestly.
Seeing that, Zachary looked at her and smiled. “Nelly, thank you.”
Nelly looked at him and pursed her lips. Still, she did not say anything.
Then, Zachary spoke again. “By the way, was it Alpha Kilian who invited you here today?”
