After hearing Alpha Kilian’s words, Fabian looked at him hesitantly, his eyes glinting with uncertainty under the weight of the alpha’s command. “Alpha Morris, is this… appropriate?”
“Just do as I say,” Alpha Morris replied, his tone firm and unwavering.
Fabian’s mind raced with thoughts. If what he suspected was true, then it was time to bring this dangerous game to an end. When he heard the determination in Alpha Kilian’s voice, he inclined his head in understanding. “I understand. I’ll work on it right away.”
Just as Fabian was about to leave, Nelly entered the room, her presence adding an unexpected twist to the situation. “Ms. Jackson, it’s been a while,” Fabian greeted her with a smile.
Nelly curled her lips in response, her gaze sharpening as she observed him. “It hasn’t been a long while; it’s only been a few days.”
Awkwardly, Fabian chuckled. “You’re fine, right? This is my fault. I should have been more careful and thorough in my investigation. It nearly caused you harm.”
Nelly’s eyes flickered towards the man on the bed, realizing that they had been working diligently on the matter all along. She shifted her gaze back to Fabian, her expression softening slightly. “You were only helping. I can’t blame you for that. In fact, I should thank you.”
Humility etched across his face, Fabian humbly smiled at her. “No, no, I couldn’t possibly accept such gratitude.”
Despite working for Alpha Kilian, Fabian had genuinely assisted in their mission. His eyes sparked with excitement at the thought. “Ms. Jackson, I’m honored to have your appreciation.”All text © NôvelD(r)a'ma.Org.
He couldn’t deny his growing fondness for Nelly. She possessed intelligence and generosity, qualities that intrigued him. If he could continue to be in her presence, while remaining in Alpha Kilian’s good graces, his future could unravel in limitless possibilities.
In that moment, Nelly smiled kindly at him, captivating Fabian with her grace and warmth. “Thank you for your help, Fabian.”
While Fabian reveled in the enchanting smile bestowed upon him, Alpha Kilian, lurking behind, focused on the interaction with a furrowed brow. Rarely did he witness such a smile himself. Sensing a twinge of jealousy, he hastily grabbed his phone and clandestinely sent a message to Fabian.
Caught amidst a conversation with Nelly, Fabian’s phone interrupted the moment. He glanced at the screen, realizing it was a message from Alpha Morris. His heart raced with trepidation, and he knew he had to act quickly.
Alpha Morris: Get lost right away.
Uh…
Fabian turned to discreetly glance at Alpha Kilian on the bed, finding a warning gaze directed his way. Is he… jealous? The realization struck Fabian like a lightning bolt, understanding the unspoken rule between them. How could he engage in such lengthy conversation with Nelly when Alpha Morris was present?
With a mixture of shock and apprehension, Fabian averted his eyes and stammered, “Ms. Jackson, I have something else to attend to. I shall take my leave… Alpha Morris is now under your care.”
Their secretive actions did not escape Nelly’s notice. However, she refrained from mentioning it, instead nodding at Fabian. “Alright, take care on your way.”
Once Fabian reciprocated the nod, he fled the scene, letting out a sigh of relief as the door closed behind him. Alpha Morris is far too possessive. It seems I must maintain a distance from Ms. Jackson from now on, unless I wish to face his wrath.
Feeling a sense of relief, Fabian patted his chest and hastened his steps.
Meanwhile, inside the ward, after Fabian’s departure, Alpha Kilian dropped his menacing facade and returned to his normal self. As Nelly approached and sat beside him on the bed, her gaze fixed upon him intently.
“What are you looking at?” he asked, feeling self-conscious. It was as if she could see through the act he’d put on for Fabian’s benefit.
Nelly’s lips curled into a knowing smile. After a moment of contemplation, she finally spoke. “Have you been investigating all along?”
Alpha Kilian raised an eyebrow, caught off guard by her question. “Do you have a problem with it?”
Nelly pressed her lips together tightly, grappling with her answer. Just as she decided on her response, Alpha Kilian interjected, not allowing her to voice her thoughts. “Don’t overthink it. I’m not doing this for you.”
Her brows furrowed in response as she locked eyes with him. “I never said you were. I was merely curious.”
Alpha Kilian rebuked her with his penetrating gaze. “You understand? What do you understand?”
“I understand everything you said,” Nelly replied, her tone firm and resolute.
Alpha Kilian’s forehead creased further, skepticism seeping into his voice. “You understand? You truly comprehend the weight of my words?”
She simply nodded, maintaining her unwavering gaze. “Yes, I understand.”
His words left Nelly speechless, unsure of what to say in return. Isn’t he just shameless?
Alpha Kilian, receiving no further response, reached out and firmly grasped her wrist. Nelly instinctively lowered her eyes, meeting his intense gaze.
“Where are you going?” he asked, his voice laced with a hint of possessiveness.
“Back to my ward to rest,” Nelly replied, her gaze still fixed upon him.
Alpha Kilian hesitated for a moment before inquiring further. “Fabian didn’t do this for you, yet you told him you’d remember the favor. And to me, you only said ‘I understand.’ Is that how you regard it?”
Nelly maintained her composure, her eyes unwavering. “You are compensating for your actions, and in that case, I see no need to remember the favor.”
His brows furrowed even more, frustration etching across his face. “Do you not have a heart, Nelly?”
“If I didn’t, I wouldn’t be here, questioning you,” she retorted.
Alpha Kilian scoffed at her response. “Rubbish! I say you don’t have a heart at all.”
Nelly frowned, her patience wearing thin. “Furthermore, who said I didn’t want you to remember that you owe me a favor? I do want you to remember, and I want you to engrave that moment in your heart.”
His words rendered Nelly momentarily speechless. Isn’t he being shameless?
In the silence that followed, Alpha Kilian pulled her closer, his grip tightening. “Sit down and talk with me for a while.”
Nelly glanced at him, contemplating her response, before finally acquiescing and retaking her seat. An almost imperceptible smile formed on Alpha Kilian’s lips as he cleared his throat, choosing a random topic to discuss.
“Where are Grandpa and Old Mr. Jackson?” he asked, attempting to lighten the mood.
“They went to pick up Donna and Ben from school,” Nelly replied.
Alpha Kilian couldn’t help but imagine the scene of the two elderly men vying for the attention of the children. They were already competing with each other just to pick them up. Three kids… if only there were four, they could each have two. But with only three, this battle would never end.
A thought sparked in Alpha Kilian’s mind, and he turned to Nelly with inquisitive eyes. “Nelly, do you really only have three kids?”
He narrowed his eyes, skepticism lacing his voice. “You didn’t hide any kids from me, did you?”
Nelly fell silent for a moment, carefully considering her response. “You’re being ridiculous,” she finally snapped.
“What about the letter C?” Alpha Kilian prodded.
“I don’t like the letter C,” Nelly stated solemnly.
“You don’t like it? Why?” Alpha Kilian pressed further.
Rather than answering his question directly, Nelly gazed at him intently, as if searching for a deeper meaning. “What do you think?”
His mind whirred as he tried to decipher her thoughts. After a moment of contemplation, a mischievous smile tugged at the corners of his lips. “You don’t like the letter C because of me?” He understood C for Cheater. But isn’t that too much?!!
