Chapter 626 Stomachache
"Ariana, maybe you should take a break and splash some water on your face?"
The assistant, trying to be helpful, was met with Ariana's glare. "I'm fine. Just keep your comments to yourself and get back to work. No one's expecting you to be mute!" Ariana's pride wouldn't let her admit weakness in front of Chloe.
If Chloe could work efficiently for so long, why couldn't she?
Despite her stubbornness, Ariana's stomach was definitely upset, and she wondered if it was something from lunch.
Chloe, unperturbed, printed out some documents and handed them to Ariana. "Take a look at these and sign them if everything's okay."
Her tone was neutral, but Ariana felt it was a veiled jab, like Chloe was deliberately putting her in a bad spot. Just as she tried to rise from her seat, she staggered and felt a wave of nausea. "Maybe you should see a doctor. Your health is important," Chloe said, more out of concern for the project's progress than for Ariana's well-being.
If Ariana couldn't participate, it would only slow things down further, and since they were working closely together, any issue on her end could cause a major hassle.
But to Ariana, Chloe's words sounded like mockery.
"Chloe, why are you so smug? Are you happy seeing me like this?"
Chloe rolled her eyes. She didn't see why Ariana's health should be a source of irritation for her.
With a dismissive glance, she turned back to her work, deciding not to waste any more energy on someone who saw her concern as insincerity.
As Ariana's condition worsened, what she initially thought was a bad stomachache turned into severe pain, causing her to break into a cold sweat.
After barely finishing a portion of her work, she tried to pass the documents to her assistant, but her vision blurred, and she collapsed onto the carpeted floor, hitting her head on the corner of the table.
A bruise began to form.
"Ariana!"
The assistant's alarmed shout caught Chloe's attention.
Hurrying over, Chloe saw Ariana's lips turning blue and her eyes rolling back.
"Get her to the hospital, now!" Chloe instructed urgently.
The assistant, snapping into action, immediately called for an ambulance.
With Ariana out of commission, the day's work was stalled. Jeremy arrived upon hearing the news and, after assessing the situation, told Chloe to head home early and take the rest of the day off. They would resume once Ariana was stable. While the delay was frustrating, Chloe appreciated the unexpected break. Standing outside the resort, she decided to call Candy.
Since arriving in Mamaica, she hadn't had a chance to see Candy, and with some free time, she wanted to catch up over dinner.
As the weather, which had been sunny moments ago, turned into a sudden downpour, Chloe realized she'd forgotten her umbrella and was now getting soaked up to her calves.
Just then, William stepped out. "Ms. Nelson, are you heading out? I can give you a ride."
Michael had mentioned he'd pick her up after work, but since Chloe was leaving early, Michael wasn't around.
Not wanting to trouble Michael with an extra trip, Chloe decided to accept William's offer. She gave him the address of the restaurant.
"You're heading to this place to meet Mr. Shawn?" William asked as he drove, making casual conversation.
"No, I'm meeting Candy. If you're free, you should join us," Chloe replied.
William's smile widened at her suggestion. "In that case, I'd be more than happy to join."
Since it was still early, none of them were particularly hungry. They decided to start with a few coffees while they waited.
"Why is William here?" Candy asked Chloe as William headed to the bar to fetch their drinks.
"He's in town for a competition. We just ran into each other," Chloe explained.
Candy nodded, finding it amusing how their paths seemed to cross.Content rights belong to NôvelDrama.Org.
"What about Wesley? Why didn't he come along?"
Candy chuckled at the question.
She said, "Wesley's been dealing with some future-stepmother drama. And let me tell you, Chloe, you won't believe how impressive the girl Richard's into is!"
