After Divorcing my Captain Husband (Chloe and Michael)

Chapter 597 Making Dinner

*****

Meanwhile, after leaving, Chloe had intended to find a hotel to stay in on her own, but Michael had other plans. He insisted on taking her to his house in Mamaica. "That house has never had any other woman in it. Only me," he said, as if that was supposed to reassure her.

Chloe paused, slightly taken aback that he thought she'd care about that.

But maybe she did, just a little. "And how do I know you're telling the truth?"

Michael didn't hesitate. "Then I'll buy you a new one!"

Chloe was left speechless.

In the end, she followed him to his house, nestled in a quiet, upscale suburban neighborhood. The area was serene and picturesque, with wealthy neighbors who seemed to live without a care in the world. As they entered, with Michael rolling her suitcase in, Chloe felt a wave of exhaustion hit her.

After a shower, she stepped out to find that Michael had already straightened up the place. He'd been having it cleaned regularly, so it was spotless.

"Get some rest. I'll let you know when dinner's ready."

She gave him a skeptical look. "You can cook?"

In all the time she'd known him, she'd never seen him set foot in a kitchen, let alone make a meal.

He hesitated, looking a bit sheepish. "I can handle a sandwich."Copyright Nôv/el/Dra/ma.Org.

"The food in here is probably expired by now, if it hasn't turned to dust."

He hadn't been to this house in years. Surely, everything in the pantry was past its prime.

"There's a supermarket nearby. I'll go grab some fresh stuff."

Chloe was too tired to care, so she let him go.

After Michael left, Chloe got a call from home. She'd forgotten to activate international roaming, and this call was the reminder she needed. "Chloe, there's a new project on the website. It looks like it's in Mamaica. You should check if it's close to you." Jessica's voice came through. Chloe pulled out her laptop and checked the details.

The project was indeed in Mamaica, and it was in her city, just three blocks away.

"I saw this project when I logged in today. I had a brief chat with the client. Everything seems fine, but it's not a big project."

Chloe usually handled all project approvals herself, scrutinizing every detail for safety.

Jessica had stepped in because Chloe was on a plane and couldn't take care of it.

The project involved tracing an IP address, which didn't seem too complicated.

Since it was so close and might not even require an in-person meeting, Chloe decided it was worth taking on.

"Tell the client we're fine with handling it online. If they agree, go ahead and accept it."

"Will do!"

Chloe napped on the sofa, and when she woke up, it was already dusk.

This was her first sunset in Mamaica, and Michael's villa had an incredible view. The sky was a canvas of orange and pink hues.

"Awake now? I made scrambled eggs. They're edible, I hope. Try them out, and if you don't like them, I can order something," Michael said. Curious about his cooking, Chloe went to the dining table.

The scrambled eggs looked surprisingly good.

Michael handed her the plate, and she took a bite. It was mild but definitely okay.

"How is it?"

Chloe nodded as she ate. "It's actually pretty good."

When she finished, she picked up her plate, intending to head to the kitchen. "I'll wash the dishes."

She felt it was only fair to help out since he cooked.

But Michael stepped in her way. "I've got this. You should relax."

Surprised by his insistence, Chloe said, "I've rested enough. I want to move around a bit."

"Then take a walk outside. I'll handle the dishes."

Chloe raised an eyebrow. "Are you sure you know how to do the dishes?"
