Chapter 15
When the maids at Tucker Manor woke up at dawn, Nelson had already sent Sabrina to the hospital.
In deep sleep, she finally came around at noon. She saw Abigail and Shannon staying by her side.
Shannon asked in concern, "Brina, do you feel unwell?"
Sabrina shook her head, feeling embarrassed for getting warded over intense sex. She said, "Shannon, I'm feeling hungry."
"Okay." Shannon hurried away to get her some food.
Abigail quickly leaned in and asked, "What went wrong? Were you having sex or tortured?"
Sabrina lowered her gaze and thought of how Nelson had bitten her on the neck last night. She mumbled to herself, "Oh, Sabrina, you're the most shameless woman in the world. Sleeping with him is no different than being tortured."
"How could you still joke at this time?" Abigail felt sorry for Sabrina, whose body was filled with hickeys from Nelson's rough behavior last night.
Sighing, Sabrina joked, "I guess it's my retribution for forcing him into a marriage."
"He should've been the one to be punished. You wouldn't have married him if he hadn't seduced you in the first place!" Abigail indignantly pulled her into a hug. "You shouldn't love him. He's not that great."
"Yeah. I'm not in love with him anymore." In fact, Sabrina had stopped loving him from the moment she decided on a divorce.
The friends chatted about last night. Nelson was adamant that Sabrina had made Bridget serve him the spiked drink. Despite her attempts to explain herself, he refused to trust her.
"Could Shannon be behind it?"
Sabrina shook her head. "Shannon wouldn't resort to such vulgar tricks."
"Who was behind it, then? What were they after?"
…
Nelson did not visit Sabrina even once during her hospital stay. She was discharged on Monday afternoon. Abigail wouldn't stop cussing him out for his indifference.
Suddenly, they heard a knock on the door. "Sabrina, may I enter?"
It was Gerald.
Sabrina answered the door. "How do you know I'm warded here?"
"I asked your assistant. I'm here to pick you up." Blushing, he produced a bunch of Rouge Royale roses from his back. "Sabrina, congratulations on the discharge."
"Why these roses again?"
"These roses always remind me of you. They're a bright shade of pink, lovely but not flashy."
Abigail chortled upon hearing his description. He noticed her presence and greeted her with a wave.
Sabrina could not possibly act ignorant, as Gerald's intentions were clear as day. His attempts to woo her were reminiscent of her past self. She didn't have the heart to turn him down.
So, she suggested out of respect, "Gerald, could you give me time to take care of some personal matters before we explore any further?"
"Sure. Shall the three of us go on a seagull-watching date tomorrow? It's the season for the Mullenport seagulls. They'll lighten your mood."
Sabrina mulled over his idea, but Abigail readily agreed to it. "Of course."
…
Sabrina visited the Tucker manor with a single goal: to finalize the divorce before the courthouse closed for the day.
Inside, she found Shannon in tears. "You'll never get over the fact that we forced you to marry Brina. Now, you think we’re conspiring with her to spike your drink and make you sleep with her.
"I love Brina so much. Her parents were wonderful people. Her mother, from a scholarly family, raised her children to be righteous and resilient. I would never want to harm her daughter!"
Sabrina knew Nelson still held a grudge against her.
Last night, he had been rough with her, likely because he hated himself for betraying Pamela. Since he had no control over his body, he could only make her the punching bag.
Jackson and Shannon treated her like their daughter when she married into their family. Yet, she grew further apart from Nelson by the day. Content protected by Nôv/el(D)rama.Org.
She assumed Nelson was determined to uncover the culprit behind the spiked drink because he wanted to prove she was the shameless woman he believed her to be, exposing her true nature to his parents.
To end the family drama, Sabrina confessed, "Yes, I made Bridget serve you the spiked drink."
