Chapter 15

Alex then looked at Candice.

“What he said–my car broke down,” she said as she picked up the glass of wine that Alex poured. She simply added, “If you want a drinking buddy, I’ll take his place.”

“You take his place?” Alex emphasized. He looked at Candice and Jackson meaningfully and asked frivolously, “Who are you to him? You taking his place?”

Candice frowned. Alex was obviously displeased judging from his tone.

Right then, Sonia, who had been quiet, suddenly exclaimed, “Mr. Shyan, are you Candice’s boyfriend?”

Candice was surprised. She stared at Sonia coldly but before she could say a word, Alex added, “Is it so?”

His deep eyes were fixated on Candice, waiting for her answer.

“Don’t give her a hard time,” Jackson said gently. His smile was as soothing as the spring breeze. He easily got Candice out of the tricky situation.

“We are just friends.”

Since the man had made it clear, the others dropped the subject.

Candice then excused herself to the restroom.

It was purely a coincidence that she bumped into Jackson.

Jackson had just returned from an overseas trip. He mentioned he was going to a party and kindly extended the invitation to Candice.

Candice, on the other hand, did not want to mess up his plan, so she tagged along. To her surprise, it was the party that Alex and Sonia talked about earlier.

Frustrated, Candice came out of the restroom after washing her hands. She was planning to wait outside and text Jackson that she was leaving, but someone stopped her at the exit.

Alex was outside the restroom, looking at his phone when Candice came out. He then looked at her and asked, “Getting back with Jackson?”

Everyone in their circle knew Jackson admired Candice.

He was also the person she could talk to among Alex’s friends. NôvelDrama.Org holds © this.

Candice was slightly taken aback. She wanted to explain herself but she found herself uttering something entirely different. “Wouldn’t you be happy then?”

Alex scoffed. “What does that have to do with me?”

“You were the one who asked Sonia to ask me if I have a boyfriend,” Candice said as she stared at the man coldly.

“Alex, what kind of answer were you expecting?”

The hallway was empty save for the two of them. The carpet silenced all footsteps with its furry texture.

Candice curled her hands and said, “I tried calling you earlier, but I couldn’t get through. It’s not in service.”

Alex looked at her with his deep eyes.

Candice used to love his eyes because they were the only way to see the side of

Alex that no one knew.

Now, when she looked at the same eyes again, she suddenly realized there was nothing but the cold abyss.

Candice’s eyelashes flickered.

Alex said, “I changed my number. Sonia wasn’t happy with the old one.”

He registered his old number with Candice and their phone numbers were two digits different.

“And…” Alex walked a few steps and stopped. He turned around to Candice and said frivolously, “If you are seeing someone, she would feel safer.”

When Candice returned to the room, the group of friends were playing Truth or Dare and it was Sonia’s turn.

She chose Dare and was asked to kiss Alex.

Everyone cheered and the girl shyly leaned into Alex’s arms.

Candice said goodbye to Jackson and told him to have fun while she made a move.

Jackson got up immediately. “I’ll take you home.”

He was not particularly loud but it was during the intermission of the game and no one was speaking, so everyone heard him.

Sonia’s giggles were exceptionally loud in the silence. She said, “Candice, if you are really dating, you have to tell me!”
