Chapter 10 Okay, Hubby
They arrived at Florin at around four o’clock in the evening.
Before getting out of the car, Damien said to Clarissa, “Change the way you address me.”
“What?” Clarissa did not understand.
“Don’t call me President Lawrence anymore.”
Clarissa gave it some thought. Then, she said without a hint of embarrassment, “Okay, hubby.”
The speed of her reaction and adaptation surprised Damien. She must have called her boyfriend that
way as well.
Damien thought, ‘Girls these days are so bold.’
He felt a strange discomfort in his heart.
On the other hand, since Damien had given her so much money, Clarissa intended to act as convincing
as possible. After all, she was a skilled and committed employee.
When they reached Damien’s grandfather’s house, Clarissa became solemn because she had to
comfort an elderly who was terminally ill. She was afraid that even the most minor action could agitate
Damien’s grandfather.
Regardless, she could only remind herself to be more careful.
Damien’s grandfather was initially a professor at the University of Florin’s law school. He was highly
influential in the legal industry and even went on television programs as a permanent guest to
elaborate on some marriage disputes. No wonder Damien mentioned his grandfather might notice their
marriage license was fake. The latter was highly educated and experienced.
Damien’s grandmother had just passed away last year. Subsequently, his grandfather was diagnosed
with lung cancer. Damien lived with his grandparents ever since he was young and had a deep
relationship with them. His grandfather hoped to see his grandson lead a happy life. Only then could he
leave without any worries.
Damien’s grandfather gazed at Clarissa from head to toe with a kind expression.
“How old is she?”
Damien replied, “23.”
Clarissa was taken aback.
‘How did he know my age?’
On second thought, Damien did look at her identification card when they registered for their marriage.
That was more than enough for him to answer his grandfather spontaneously and appropriately. He
was a really meticulous person.
Damien’s grandfather said to him, “Isn’t she a lot younger than you? The difference is eight years,
right?”
“Correct.”
Damien smiled. He spoke in a gentle tone that Clarissa had never heard before.
“Then you must treat her well.”
Damien’s grandfather smiled lovingly.
“That’s for sure.” Damien and Clarissa were sitting on the sofa. He grabbed her hand and kissed it
naturally.
It was as if an electric current had flowed through Clarissa’s whole body. She felt tingly and numb. At
first, she wanted to withdraw her hand, but that might expose the truth. Hence, she did not do anything.
Her palm began sweating.
“Clarissa is an intern. She doesn’t want to let the company employees know about our marriage
because it’ll create rumors.” Damien’s tone suddenly became intimate. He even turned his head
sideways to glance at Clarissa. It was as though his eyes could speak. As he looked at her, there were
hints of mockery and mischief. “The timing was right, so we just registered our marriage. I brought her
here so both of you could meet.” This belongs © NôvelDra/ma.Org.
Without a doubt, the “right timing” Damien mentioned was about them having sex.
“The two of you came at the wrong time. Since you didn’t say that you were coming, the part-time
housekeeper took on other jobs. No one can prepare a meal. Let’s eat out,” said Damien’s grandfather.
Suddenly, he thought of something. “If only your grandma was still around. She would’ve made some
ravioli. Damien, you’ve liked that dish ever since you were young…”
Before Damien’s grandfather could finish speaking, his eye rims reddened. He was an intellectual.
When Damien’s grandmother was still alive, they never needed a housekeeper. After she passed away,
Damien had suggested hiring a full-time housekeeper and a few caregivers for his grandfather.
However, the latter said, “I already have one foot in the grave. Don’t waste your effort.”
Damien’s grandfather had always lived alone. The part-time housekeeper would only come by
occasionally to cook some meals.
Clarissa stood up and said naturally, “I know how to make ravioli. Would you like to try it? I’ve made it
several times for Damien. Right, hubby?”
She decided to cook because she was touched after hearing Damien’s grandparent’s story. Secondly,
there were also monetary gains. In their agreement, it was clearly stated that twenty thousand dollars
would be awarded if she cooked a delicious meal for Damien’s grandfather.
Moreover, she needed to keep up with her lovey-dovey act. That was the only way Damien’s
grandfather would be reassured.
Damien sat on the sofa with his legs crossed. He touched his chin with one of his hands. Who knew
Clarissa would be the one to take the initiative. Nevertheless, he could not tell if she was being sincere
or was purely faking it. This woman was even better than a professional actress.
Damien said as he smiled faintly, “That’s right. Grandpa, let her do it.”
He looked at Clarissa’s face with a profound gaze. Clarissa entered the kitchen with an expression as if
she had been found out.
